Megan and I are conscious and mindful when selecting dog food, especially for a rescue that means the world to us.
We wanted: Good Quality Ingredients, No Fillers, Nutritious, Delicious for Raya, Sustainable Practices, and, if at all possible, A Canadian Company.
Upon doing literally weeks of research, we found Open Farm (and we are so grateful that we did - and Raya is too!) woof!
Every ingredient within Open Farm's dry or raw foods can be traced back to their origins on their website - It's so cool to see that Salmon came from BC, or that chickpeas came from Saskatchewan!
A big part of why we chose Open Farm is that they're as natural as they come, no additives or weird ickies in this dog kibble, and Raya's review: It's delicious! I'm lickin' my chops just thinking about it!
We have tried many products from Open Farm and have been feeding our girl Raya food and supplements along with treats from Open Farm on a consistent basis since adopting her (September 2024).
What I also like about it is that they have Grain-Free and Grain options with their food, and the basis of the food is the same, meaning you can switch from their Beef Grain-Free Kibble to their Wild-Caught Salmon Kibble without pup tummy upset.

So.. a) we figured out the food thing
b) I nearly cried in the vet's office during Raya's first appointment, because I found out she needed supplements.. I thought this meant that she wasn't healthy, or that something was going to happen to her… BOY WAS I WRONG.
In the end, I learned that supplements (much like for humans) are there to prevent or maintain a dog's health. Raya, being a rescue with signs of bilateral hip dysplasia, we wanted to make sure she was covered.
And our hippie “organic” granola-loving, “make sure our dog lives till 100 in human years” minds (and hearts) decided on Open Farm's Hip & Joint Supplement.
We wanted something natural, something local, and something that would truly contribute to our dog's health, wellbeing and longevity.
