I am a visual artist and here is a recommendation to get you started with oil painting.
These are a great brand that's affordable for beginners. A little goes a long way. If you don't want to get the whole set I also recommend getting white, black red, yellow and blue.

To start out I would recommend working on cotton or linen sheets vs a canvas or wooden board.

For beginners I would also recommend using a gray paper palette to get the best color values and for easy cleanup.
Jack Richeson Grey Matters Paper Palette, 50 Sheets
I recommend getting a good quality linseed oil to mix your oil paints. This company also has a pack of different mediums that I will also link.
Refined Linseed Oil - Winsor & Newton
To clean your brushes and thin out your paint I recommend this odorless non toxic solvent. Like the linseed oil and paint it's self a little goes a long way.
Gamsol
If you get paint on your clothes or in your hair, or on the floor or rugs like I do, I would recommend this soap to get stains out.
Pink Soap 12-Ounce Brush Cleaner & Conditioner
This is the easel I use but I wouldn't necessarily recommend for beginners I will link another travel easel but I wanted to include this one because it's so sturdy. I have broken it down multiple times and put it back together again over and over.
Saint Remy Multi-Angle Wood Studio Easel | Jerry's Artarama
I recommend a table top easel to start or a collapsible easel so that it's easy for you to store, set up, and clean easily.

I love this starter pack of mediums so you can try what you like and don't like before committing.

If you are hesitant about working with oils and toxicity, there are some water mixable paints also. I would recommend trying these out also if you have kids wanted to learn the techniques and you are concerned about fumes etc.
I would recommend trying out synthetic and real hair brushes out to see what type of stroke style you prefer.
Oil Paint Brushes
There are several different styles of palette knives that you can try out. I have metal and plastic in my collection. I mainly use them for mixing paint but I used to use them to paint instead of brushes.

I would also recommend a rolling cart or table to keep your supplies near and organized while you are working.
White Carts, Stands & Rollings - Wayfair
These are my fav towels. They work for pottery and painting. I don't need multiple towels to clean up spills. Super absorbent and I usually only need one towel per painting. And I wipe my brushes a lot.

Here's a quick crash course on oil painting. This is a great guide to get you started.

Paint is almost impossible to get out of clothes (ask me how I know). I recommend an apron.

I literally used this tube opener this morning. It helps when I have a oil paint cap that is stuck shut. It saves me from having to cut the bottom of the paint tube open.
