We drove from the airport to the ferry. Arrived on the half hour and were able to drive right on for a quick 20 minute ride across to Whidbey Island.

We took a side trail up from Rosario RD where we were staying. It included walking alone a creek and a small waterfall. Beautiful day, a bit rainy at times around the lake. The more scenic side is opposite the day use area.

Day # 4 Orcas Island to Port Angeles via Port Townsend Ferry
Stopped back by the Orcas Hotel cafe for a cup of coffee on our way out of town in the AM. We were able to walk down after we parked our car in the ferry line.

We boarded the 8:55 ferry which was right on time. A brief stop at the quaint Shaw Island and then off to the mainland.

Deception Pass Bridge & State Park
We arrived when they opened at 11:30 in the quaint town of Coupeville. Got a window seat overlooking the bay and delicious fresh local mussels.
Service was fast and good. We would’ve loved to linger, but were off to catch the next ferry.

We grabbed the 1:15 ferry to Four Townsend from the Coupeville ferry terminal. Several Orcas spotted in the distance on this slightly choppy ride across the sound to the Olympic Peninsula.

Day # 6 Port Angeles to Graham.
Today was a moving day. We made the 3 hour drive from Port Angeles to Graham, Washington. We traveled the scenic 101 along the east side of the Olympic Peninsula.

One of our favorite stops of the day. The water in the lake was so still and reflective. The views were amazing. So calm and peaceful. Discovery pass required, but on this weekday in May no one was checking.

Around noon we were to the town of Leavenworth. We explored around here for an hour, visiting some of the shops. There was a student orchestra playing in the park. This town is known for its Bavarian style and multiple festivals.

After viewing Ross Dam from the overlook, we took the Ross Dam trail 1 mile down to enjoy an evening walk on the dam. It was a good quick workout with a steady climb up and out. Felt good to be walking after a day of travel.

We got a very affordable rental here through Hotwire. Our compact SUV was a 2025 Toyota RAV 4 which drove beautifully in the mountains and got great gas mileage. Pick up and drop off were easy and we caught a shuttle to the airport.
