The seed catalogues have arrived. It's time to dust off the garden tools and supplies. Spring will be here soon and you need to be ready.  I've put together some of my all time favorites and a some new additions to my gardening habit.

Hands down, one of our all time favorite tomatoes.  A great all-around tomato. Fantastic choice for salads, salsas, sauces, and sandwiches. I didn't grow enough for canning, but I plan to this year!

Cilantro is so easy to grow. You'll wish you did it sooner.  For the price of one bunch at the grocery, you can grow a whole garden bed full of cilantro if that's your thing! Have more than you can use right now? Chop and mix with melted butter or olive oil and freeze,  December you will thank you!

I bought a packet of chive seeds years ago and they keep re-seeding.  A pretty biannual, one packet will keep you set for years. We usually have fresh chives available from March to November. Not too bad!

Sandwiches, salads, snacks (wrap a mozzarella ball in a leaf!), and of course pesto. If there's every pesto leftover, we freezer it. But, basil is one of our rare summer only treats!  Basil - if I could grow only one herb, basil would be it! Pinch them early and often for bushier plants. I start dozens of plants every year and wish for more. We don't dry any, but eat it all fresh.affiliate link

We're going on year 3 and the tumblers are in amazing shape. We leave them out all year.  In the fall we empty them and bury the almost finished compost in the garden.  Over the winter, we add our kitchen scraps.  When the spring arrives, we have a head start on fresh compost.  I hate turning compost bins. I'm lazy that way. The sturdy base and deep molded fins make turning and aeration easy. Your roof is working hard collecting and diverting rain - Add a rain barrel or 2 to your home and you'll have free water for the garden. Look for one with mesh screens to keep the mosquitos out. Affiliate link

For the cost of one spice bottle, you can grow Rosemary all season long. I bring mine in over the winter and move it outside again in the spring. There is nothing like adding fresh rosemary to a pot of stew to brighten a winter day! Affiliate link
