I stapled a paper garland to my mantle once and it peeled off by dinner. These hang properly, look intentional, and survive the whole month without drooping.

A garland by itself can look a little lonely up there. I figured out which small pieces fill in the gaps without making it look like a Valentine's shrine.

My mantle looked decorated but felt flat until I added candles. The right scent and glow turned it from Pinterest attempt into something I actually wanted to sit near.

I decorated my mantle last year and then sat on my beige couch staring at it, realizing the rest of the room didn't match at all. A couple of pillows fixed that disconnect instantly.

Candles alone left dark spots on my mantle. Adding a string of small lights behind the garland made everything pop, especially after sunset when it actually matters.

Year one I shoved everything in a grocery bag and half of it was crushed by March. Now I have a system and everything comes out looking exactly like it did when I packed it away.
