The first year I tried to spell HAPPY BIRTHDAY with individual letters and half of them were face-down by sunrise. These kits actually stay put and read clearly from the road.

Generic birthday signs are fine, but when you can call out her actual age from the street it hits different. My wife turned 40 and seeing that number ten feet tall on the lawn made her laugh-cry.

Letters alone can look a little flat. Adding some 3D elements like balloon clusters or inflatable decorations next to the signs made the whole setup look like I actually planned ahead for once.

Staking signs in the dark is its own comedy show. And if you want them to glow at dawn or she's an early riser, lighting makes the difference between a nice gesture and an unforgettable one.

Nothing kills the surprise like waking up at 5am to re-stake everything that fell over. After one windy disaster I started buying better stakes separately and it changed everything.

Half the reason I buy quality yard signs is because I reuse them every birthday in the house. Four birthdays a year means these things need to survive storage in my garage without looking wrecked.
