Spooky season hits different in Central Florida. This is my local's roundup of the best Halloween events, haunted houses, scare trails and family-friendly trick-or-treat nights near Orlando, Kissimmee and Poinciana, plus a few Amazon picks to get you...
Map
HHN is the big one. Ten houses, scare zones packed with roaming scareactors, and a very adults-only vibe. Grab an Express Pass if you can swing it; the house lines get brutal on weekends.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida
SeaWorld's answer to HHN, and honestly the better value. Fewer crowds, killer scare zones near the water, and the bars in the park lean into it. Not for little kids, but great for a date night in October.
Howl O Scream Orlando
The family-friendly pick. Kids trick-or-treat inside Magic Kingdom, the Boo-to-You parade is worth staking out a spot for, and the fireworks are some of Disney's best. Buy tickets early because the October dates sell out fast.
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
Zero scares, all candy. Brick-or-Treat is the toddler-and-elementary crowd's Halloween, with trick-or-treat trails, a monster party and costumed characters, and it's included with regular park admission on select weekends.
LEGOLAND® Florida Resort
About an hour from Kissimmee but worth the drive if you want real scares. It's an outdoor horror park with multiple haunted attractions, and the interactive houses let the actors actually grab you if you opt in. Go on a weeknight to skip the worst li...
Scream-A-Geddon Horror Park
Kissimmee's year-round haunted house right in Old Town on 192. It's a solid walk-through with live actors, and October brings extended hours and extra scares. Great add-on if you're already doing the Old Town car show on a Saturday night.
Mortem Manor Haunted Attraction
An outdoor scare trail through actual woods in Altamonte Springs, which makes it feel way creepier than an indoor maze. Multiple trails, a solid midway with food and drinks, and it's a local favorite that sells out on peak weekends.
A Petrified Forest Scare Trail
Right off I-4 in Plant City, so it's an easy stop coming back from Tampa. Three haunted trails plus a zombie paintball ride, and the actors here are relentless. Get the combo ticket and go early in the season before the lines balloon.
Sir Henry's Haunted Trail
Their Zoo Boo Bash runs October weekends and it's perfect for the under-10 crowd: trick-or-treat stations around the zoo, costume parades and zero scares. Way cheaper than a theme park party ticket and the animals are the bonus.
Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens
Gatorland's Gators, Ghosts & Goblins is the sleeper hit for families down the OBT/Kissimmee side. Trick-or-treating past thousands of gators, costume contests and the Screamin' Gator zipline at night. It's ten minutes from Poinciana traffic-free.
Gatorland
Orlando's big horror convention, usually held in October at the convention center on I-Drive. Celebrity guests from horror films, a huge vendor hall, costume contests and film screenings. If you're a horror nerd this is the weekend to plan around.
Spooky Empire
Old Town goes all-in for October with costume-friendly car shows, trick-or-treating along the brick street and a kid-safe vibe before the haunted house crowd shows up. It's free to walk, which makes it my default cheap Halloween night with the family...
Old Town
Florida trick-or-treating happens in the dark on streets without many sidewalks, so a light-up bag is a safety thing as much as a fun thing. Kids love them, drivers can see them, and they hold way more candy than a pumpkin pail.
Light Up Halloween Bag
I buy a bulk pack every year and it's gone by Halloween. Bracelets for the kids while trick-or-treating, necklaces for the adults at Old Town, and the leftovers get used at HHN to find your group in a scare zone.
Ammy Glow Sticks 205 Pcs Bulk Party Kit
If you're the house on the street that decorates, a cheap fog machine is the single biggest upgrade. Runs off standard fog juice, the remote lets you blast it when trick-or-treaters walk up, and it turns a Poinciana driveway into a graveyard scene.
