Disney and Universal get all the attention, but Central Florida is packed with family fun that won't drain your wallet or your patience. After raising my kids in Kissimmee, these are the attractions we return to again and again — wildlife parks, airb...
Map
The self-proclaimed Alligator Capital of the World, and a true old-Florida classic. Kids love the gator wrestling shows and the zipline over the breeding marsh — way more affordable than the mega parks.
Gatorland
Gliding across the marsh at 40 mph spotting wild gators and birds is pure Florida magic. The 30-minute rides are perfect for younger kids, and the captains are great with questions — book the early slot to beat the heat.
Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures
Two attractions in one: a drive-thru safari with zebras and rhinos plus airboat rides on Cypress Lake. It's about 45 minutes south of Kissimmee but worth the drive for a full day of wildlife the kids won't forget.
Wild Florida Airboats & Gator Park
A relaxed, shady zoo that's easy to do in a morning, with a fantastic zipline course (ZOOm Air) right on site. Far less crowded than the big parks and a great value for a half-day with little ones.
Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens
Four floors of hands-on science, a planetarium, dino fossils, and a giant-screen theater. This is our rainy-day hero in Orlando — the kids burn hours here and somehow learn something too.
Orlando Science Center
Inside The Florida Mall, this is 25+ colorful, hands-on activities — melt crayons, name your own color, star in a coloring page. Perfect for younger kids and a lifesaver on a hot or rainy afternoon.
Crayola Experience Orlando
A hands-on farm right in Kissimmee where kids can milk a cow, hold chicks, and pet hundreds of animals on a guided tour. It's old-school, unhurried fun and a hit with toddlers and preschoolers.
Green Meadows Petting Farm
A free-to-enter retro entertainment district with shops, rides, and a famous Saturday-night classic car cruise. We stroll, grab ice cream, and let the kids ride the Ferris wheel — easy, low-cost evening.
Old Town Kissimmee
About an hour east of Kissimmee and 100% worth the drive. Touch a moon rock, walk under a real Saturn V rocket, and meet an astronaut. It's the rare attraction that wows kids and adults equally — plan a full day.
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
50 acres of gardens, giant oaks, and lakefront paths just minutes from downtown Orlando. It's a calm, inexpensive morning out — great for a stroller walk, a picnic, or letting the kids run while you breathe.
Harry P Leu Gardens
Downtown Orlando's signature park, where you can paddle the iconic swan boats, feed real swans, and let the kids loose at the playground. Free to walk, cheap to ride — pair it with the Sunday farmers market.
Lake Eola Park
A 4,700-acre conservation ranch with ziplines, a coaster, horseback rides, and a real Florida wildlife safari. It's a true outdoor adventure day south of Kissimmee — older kids and teens love the zip courses.
Forever Florida Zipline Safari
Adventure-themed mini golf with caves, waterfalls, and even live gators you can feed. It's right on 192 in Kissimmee and our reliable rainy-evening or after-dinner pick — fun for every age.
