items Islands of Adventure is home to Orlando's two best coasters and its soggiest water rides - here's my local playbook for beating the Hagrid's line, using single rider the right way, staying dry(ish), and eating well in Hogsmeade and beyond.
The game plan: get here 45 minutes early, and know your priority. Coaster people go Hagrid's then VelociCoaster. Potter people go Forbidden Journey then Hagrid's. Deciding in the parking garage is how you lose an hour.
Universal Islands of Adventure
Still the toughest ticket in Orlando. No Express here - your options are rope drop, the last 30 minutes, or a summer thunderstorm break. Ask for the motorbike seat; it's a completely different ride than the sidecar.

Best coaster in Florida, period. The single rider line routinely cuts the wait in half, and the free lockers are right in the queue. Night rides are a different animal - that top hat over the lagoon in the dark is unreal.
Jurassic World VelociCoaster
The posted wait lies - most of it is the (admittedly awesome) walk through the temple queue. Single rider here is often a 5-minute walk-on, and you barely miss anything since the main show scenes are on the truck.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong
25 years old and still one of the best dark rides anywhere. Waits melt away in the afternoon while everyone's at the coasters. Look for Stan Lee's cameo, and ask to sit front row - the 3D hits way harder.
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
Save this and Popeye for LAST, or for the hottest part of the day - you will get drenched, not splashed. Pro move: stash a dry shirt in a paid locker by the entrance, or ride in your swimsuit like us locals do.

The wettest ride in Orlando - the water cannons on the bridge above guarantee it. Phones go in the center console (it actually seals well) or better, a dry bag. There's a full-body dryer at the exit if you cave.
Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges
Eat here at 10:45am before the lunch rush and you'll walk right up. The Great Feast platter feeds four for less than four separate meals, and the back porch overlooks the lake - best seats in Hogsmeade.
Three Broomsticks
A real sit-down restaurant hiding inside a theme park - repeatedly voted the best in the business. Book on the Universal app a few days out; a table here at 1pm is the smartest AC-and-recharge move in the park.
Mythos Restaurant
Ride the train TO Universal Studios from here - the Hogsmeade-to-King's Cross direction usually has the shorter line, and hopping over to Diagon Alley mid-afternoon is perfect timing to beat its crowds.
Hogwarts Express: Hogsmeade Station
Insider secret: this Hogsmeade Ollivanders does the exact same wand ceremony as the famous Diagon Alley one, with a fraction of the line. If your kid wants to be chosen, this is the better-odds location.

Free, no line, and my kids would happily spend two hours in this giant dino playground. The amber mine caves are genuinely cool (and shaded). Warning: the water cannon area WILL soak them - see a pattern forming at this park?
Camp Jurassic
The sleeper tip for Seuss Landing: ride the trolley for the best aerial photo spot in the park - you get the whole candy-colored land plus Hogwarts castle in one shot. Kids love it, and the line is usually short after dinner.

Between Popeye, Ripsaw Falls and Camp Jurassic's water cannons, IOA is basically a water park with coasters. This roll-top bag saved our phones and spare shirts more times than I can count - the phone case alone is worth it.
