As an adult reader, young adult books are something of a guilty pleasure. I'm difficult though, for me to like them, they need to have serious plots and fully fleshed complex characters.
I've just discovered Rebecca Yarros and I must admit to being hooked to the Empyrean series.
Fourth Wing - Rebecca Yarros
#2 in the Empyrean series. Fast paced as the first one.
Iron Flame - Rebecca Yarros
Hooked from the first sentence. I recommended it to my SO and he read it in one night!
A Deadly Education (Scholomance Series #1) - Naomi Novik
Second book in the Scholomance series, just as good as the first.
The Last Graduate (Scholomance Series #2)| Naomi Novik
The 3rd and last book in the Scholomance series. Impossible not to read as I'd loved the first 2 so much but it's not my favorite. The plot is great, the narration a little too linear.
The Golden Enclaves (Scholomance Series #3) - Naomi Novik
Brookmyre doesn't usually fall in the young adult category but this fast paced gory story features a group of teenagers. Jubilatory!
Pandaemonium - Christopher Brookmyre
This one is in French, I read it after hearing an interview of the author on the local radio.
Les Mobilisés: Absolu - Margot Dessenne
This one could also go in the Mystery category but the protagonists are young. I found it surprisingly good.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder #1)| Holly Jackson
Elizabeth George has been one of my favorite writers for a long time.
The edge of nowhere - tomes 1,2 et 3| Elizabeth George
Can you make a Young Adult list without Harry Potter? I read them as an adult and found so much in there.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: 25th Anniversary Edition (Harry Potter Series #1)|JK Rowling
When a book is made into a successfull film, the book is sometimes forgotten. I always prefer the book versions!
The Hunger Games (Deluxe Edition) (Hunger Games Series #1)| Suzanne Colling
The first book in the Shadowhunters series. Intriguing.
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments Series #1)| Cassandra CLARE
A not-to-be-forgotten classic.
Eragon: The Illustrated Edition|Hardcover
An absolute Must Read, especially in these times when history seems to be repeating itself. Time to learn from past mistakes!
Anne Frank's diaries
I read this one years ago, I still remember it.
'Holes' Louis Sachar
The first of a new series with a new cast of characters. It mixes fantasy, revenge and romance.
'Six of Crows' Leigh Bardugo
This is the Time list of best 100 young adults books of all times. There are loads of great recommendations in there and I'm happy to report that I've read quite a few of them.
The 100 Best YA Books of All Time
On the fence about this one as I'm not completely convinced by the characters but so many people love it that it might just be me.
Ninth House| Leigh Bardugo
#3 in the Empyrean series. Just finished it and I can't wait for the next one to come out!
#3 in the Edge series. I've only just realized that the previous reference I posted for this series was the French version. I did read them in English though.
The Edge of the Shadows / Elizabeth George
Ah, here's the first of the series in English.
Pre-Owned The Edge of Nowhere Hardcover Elizabeth George
How to explain racism to young readers.
Noughts & Crosses| Malorie Blackman
More for teens than young adults. I just read it, it's a young teen's story. Cute and magic with a side of war but softened.
A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking| T. Kingfisher
