The Grampians trails are rocky, uneven, and slippery after rain. I wore running shoes my first time and my ankles paid for it for a week straight.

Victoria weather changes fast and the Grampians sit high enough that mornings can be freezing while afternoons feel like summer. I started one hike in thermals and finished it sunburned.

Running out of water on a Grampians ridge with no shade and no refill point was one of the dumbest mistakes I've made. There's no shop halfway up the Pinnacle.

Phone signal disappears on most Grampians trails. I missed a junction on the northern section and added an extra hour of hiking before I realized my GPS had lost connection.

The views from the Pinnacle and Boroka Lookout are some of the best in Victoria. My phone died right before I reached the summit because I'd been using it for navigation all morning. Lesson learned.
