Nobody warned me that washing short natural hair is a completely different experience. Water just hits your scalp directly and suddenly you realize you need products that actually cleanse without stripping the little moisture you have left.

Felt ridiculous putting a hair mask on hair this short, but skipping it was a mistake I made for three weeks straight. My ends started splitting before they even had a chance to grow.

Biggest rookie mistake was using the same heavy leave-ins from my long hair days. Everything just sat on top and made my TWA look greasy instead of defined.

Poured regular coconut oil on my hair the first week and looked like a wet seal for three days. Finding the right oils for short natural hair took embarrassingly long.

Stared at my hair for a solid month not knowing if I was 3C or 4A or something in between. These products helped me actually see what my natural curls wanted to do on their own.

Cutting all my hair off meant my scalp was suddenly exposed to everything — sun, cold air, sweat. Developed flakes within two weeks because I didn't think scalp care applied to me.

Woke up the first morning after my chop with my hair pointing in six different directions. Realized fast that sleeping without protection on short hair is somehow worse than with long hair.

Had a wedding three weeks after my big chop and genuinely considered wearing a wig. These products proved that two inches of hair can actually look put together and intentional.

Three months post-chop I got bored and wanted color. Made the mistake of bleaching at home first — don't be me. These products kept my colored TWA from turning into straw.

Realized quickly that all my old brushes, combs, and clips were designed for long hair. Needed to basically start my tool collection from scratch, which felt ridiculous but made a huge difference.
