A collection of some of my favorite places and experiences across Denmark — from cozy streets in Copenhagen to castles, museums, and small coastal towns that make Denmark feel so special.
One of Copenhagen’s most magical attractions and one of the places that inspired Walt Disney to create Disneyland. Growing up, visiting Tivoli once a year with my family was always one of the biggest highlights of my childhood.
Tivoli Gardens
A fascinating museum featuring real Viking ships and Danish Viking history. During the summer, many locals come here after work to walk along the harbor while enjoying an ice cream or a classic Danish hot dog.
The Viking Ship Museum
Whenever friends visit, I usually tell them to walk through Strøget at least once. It’s busy and touristy in parts, but there are also plenty of nice cafés and smaller local shops tucked between the bigger brands.
Strøget | Shopping area in Copenhagen
Yes, it’s the classic postcard view of Copenhagen, but honestly it’s still worth seeing. The colorful buildings and canal atmosphere are especially nice on a sunny day, and it’s a great place to sit with a coffee or drink, and jump on the canal tour ...
Nyhavn | Iconic site in Copenhagen
If you want to see a proper fairytale-style Danish castle, this is probably my top suggestion. The gardens and lake around it are beautiful, and the train ride there is pretty easy from Copenhagen.
Frederiksborg Castle
Most people know this as the castle from Hamlet, but even aside from that, it’s a really impressive place to visit. The views over the water are amazing, and Helsingør is a lovely town to walk around too
Kronborg Castle - Hamlet
If you love art, then this is honestly one of my favorite places in Denmark. Even people who aren’t super into modern art usually enjoy it because the location by the sea is just incredible, and the whole place has such a calm atmosphere
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
I always recommend taking a walk around Christianshavn if you want a more relaxed side of Copenhagen. The canals, little cafés, and quieter streets make it feel very local compared to the busier city center.
Christianshavn
Bornholm is a small island and feels a bit different from the rest of Denmark in the best way. If you have extra time and want nature, small coastal towns, and a slower pace, it’s such a nice getaway, especially in summer.
You should see on Bornholm
If you’re traveling with kids — or honestly just love LEGO — this is a fun stop. Since LEGO started in Denmark, it’s kind of a classic experience, and Billund has a really friendly atmosphere overall.
The OG LEGOLAND®
A peaceful green space in Roskilde that’s especially beautiful during summer. The gardens and historic buildings create such a calm atmosphere, and many locals come here to walk, relax, and enjoy nature. The area is also connected to mental health an...
Sct. Hans Have Roskilde
One of the most iconic design stores in Denmark and such a fun place to explore if you love Scandinavian interiors. Even if you’re not shopping, it’s worth visiting for the inspiration alone and to experience classic Danish design in one place.
Illums Bolighus
A really fun and unique experience in Copenhagen, especially if you want something a little different while visiting the city. Everything inside is made from ice — including the glasses — and the whole space feels like stepping into a tiny Arctic wor...
ICEBAR Copenhagen
One of the things I miss most about Denmark is how normal and easy biking is in Copenhagen. The city is built around bicycles with dedicated bike lanes everywhere, and people of all ages bike daily for commuting, errands, and everyday life. It’s such...

One of the most well-known vintage stores in Copenhagen and such a fun place to browse if you love Scandinavian fashion and designer pieces. The selection feels much more curated and fashion-forward than a typical thrift store, with a mix of vintage ...
