Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
I have loved visiting this museum for as long as I can remember! Free for Detroit and Wayne Co residents. Make sure to check the schedule and plan for a couple hours at least.
Detroit Institute of Arts Museum
A great place to visit as a family with kids! I went with friends and still enjoyed the multiple floor science center.
Michigan Science Center
This is closer to Dearborn and definitely worth visiting!
Arab American National Museum – Arab American History ...
While it's outside of city bounds, this is still a worthwhile family trip! If you're in SE Michigan for a weekend visit the museum and village.
The Henry Ford – Museum, Greenfield Village & Rouge Factory
Located right on Belle Isle, this museum is family friendly and fascinating! There's a lot of cool history here. Inexpensive but not free, def a great stop on a Belle Isle day.

A huge, historical park with walking trails, pond, lighthouse, and even a splash pad for kids. Easy to find.
Palmer Park | City of Detroit
My summertime home away from home! With extensive wildlife trails, golf course, historic national treasures, and beaches for swimming and fishing. There are frequently food trucks, plus playgrounds and bathrooms making this park family friendly.
Belle Isle Park Detail - Department of Natural Resources
Located right on Belle Isle, this historic Conservatory is home to a number of stunning plants from citrus trees to cacti and orchids. Gorgeous gardens in summer and spring as well. Donation based payment.
Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory - Pure Michigan
Held downtown, the annual Detroit Jazz Fest is a summer weekend of music, food, and local vendors. Check it out!
