These are some of my favourite places in Amsterdam. If you're eating out for dinner I would recommend booking in advance as places often fill-up and don't like to take walk-ins, even if they have space! That being said, I've chosen this list based of places that aren't too difficult with walk-ins, hav... (I might still recommend a few options that require queuing, but with a few tips!)

Café's
Amazing bakery in Amsterdam West. Especially cosy in the winter when hiding from the cold and rain and the ovens from the bakery are all firing. Everything is sourdough and the coffee, pastries and sandwiches are great!
Louf Bakery & Café
Another great café for the coffee nerds with a wide selection of beans to choose from. There's no wifi so more suited to having a chat or reading a book while enjoying a nice brew.
Fuku Café
Awarding winning café in Amsterdam East. This one is for the coffee nerds, but they serve natural wine as well as matcha. The cardoman buns are stupidly good, and if you are early they have sandwiches before they sell out!
4850 Café
Amazing bakery close to de Pijp. French style with lots of modern twists on classics and also some more experimental pastries too!
Grammes
If you have visited Amsterdam before you may have seen the queue outside this place. Unfortunately, this place is really great for Japanese sandos and matcha but I would not suggest going during the weekend. If you're a sel-respecting person the queu...
Chun Café | Amsterdam
Here's another place that, unfortunately, is really good and everyone knows about it! That means you will queue, and getting a seat might be even harder, that being said there's loads of great benches to go and take your sandwich to eat at. It's a mu...
ZeroZero
Great, easy spot to get a matcha, or boba tea. Personally favourites here are the matcha rose, or the taro tea.
Nomu - Boba | Matcha | Coffee
Great Japanese inspired speciality coffee and matcha near Centraal Station. The food is more breakfast orientated so it's a great option to start your day with.
Sango Specialty Coffee
Good matcha and coffee in de Pijp. I haven't tried their wine selection but if the rest is anything to go by I'm sure that's good too! The location is great as it's facing right onto Sarphatipark.
Nook - Coffee | Matcha | Wine
This is the best matcha in de Pijp, but they have two locations their first location is by the Amstel. Either one is highly recommended and serve great food by Ikkoku.

Suriname is one of the Netherlands former colonies, and Surinamese people make up a large part of the Dutch population.
This place is one of my go-to's, and it's one of the best spots in the city for a Saoto Soup - the Surinamese chicken soup dish.
The decoration isn't special, it's better for a quick and easy stop, especially on a wet and cold Amsterdam day.
Pangestu t'Saoto Huisje
Amazing institution in Amsterdam for Chinese baked goods. They sell out quick though so to be safe you should go around noon to not miss out. Personal favourites are the pork buns, and if you're looking for sweet the egg yolk buns are great as well!
Hoi Tin Bakery
Restaurants
Great diner style restaurant. I love the interior here, and the atmosphere is great. Personal favourites are the steak, chicken biscuits, the some of the many sides!
Stacks Diner Amsterdam
I love to take visitors here! It's an authentic Sichuan style restaurant in Amsterdam. What's great is that there are 3 of these all within about 200m from each other. So no need to book you can just try one of the others if one is full. That being s...
Whatever main you choose (there are many) I definitely recommend to order the cucumber and aubergine as sides.
Sichuan Amsterdam
In NL there are many indonesian restaurants however, this is one of the best for authenticity and flavour, that is worth the price. It's very well regarded amongst the Indonesian community here.
Café Warung Pas
This is a French style restaurant with a Belgian twist. One of the best in Amsterdam and good if you're looking for something upscale with classic dishes.
Rijsel
Here they serve Thai streetfood that are more interesting and niche than the classics that most of us would be familiar with. The cocktails are great so it makes for a really fun night of dinner and drinks.
Thai Thai Poppetje
If you like seafood then Barracuda is worth a visit. It's relatively new and located in Amsterdam Noord, where they've got a large menu to choose from and seating both inside and outside.
Restaurant Barracuda Amsterdam
There are a few great pizza spots in Amsterdam, many of them specialising in Neapolitan style pizza. This is one of the best of the bunch.
Pizza Project - Neapolitan Pizza Bar
The best smash burger in the city. It's situated in Noord in Oedipus brewery so you've got plenty of options when it comes to drinks, it's the home of some specials like Mannenliefde a hoppy craft beer, not to mention many others.
However, I go over and over again for these smash burgers, they are perfection and exactly how a smash burger should be, melted cheese, pickles and soft brioche bun.
The Beef Chief
If you want easy, fast food, skip the usual chains of big names. This is a family run diner style with 50s decor that serve real quality at a seriously good price. It's one of my favourite spots in Amsterdam.
The best thing they do is fried chicken so I can only vouch for the fried chicken burgers, wraps or tenders. They're too good I haven't even tried the rest of the menu. All is halal btw too.
Greazy
Here's a great handpulled noodle spot with two locations in Amsterdam. One location on the Zeedijk and the over on Lange Leidsedwarsstraat just off the Leidseplein.
I love the Wonton Soup and the spicy noodle soups with beef.
Xi'An Delicious Food
Extremely well regarded ramen spot in Amsterdam, it's purely in the list if you happen to have just booked your trip and are preparing to come or will be here for a long time, as reservations are hard to come by and will need to be done in advance.
Super fresh food, and done with the Japanese craft for food in mind.
Fuku Ramen Amsterdam
As it says on the tin, this is place is a taste of culture. It's probably the best Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. Very well regarded by the local Chinese community as well!
Taste of Culture
Amazing fried chicken spot in Amsterdam on the edge of de Pijp. It's got a vibrant atmosphere and gets cosy later in the year. The veggie fried mushroom burger is amazing too if you're with company who have a food restrictions but you don't want them...
KID Amsterdam
I had one of the best meals ever here with friends once. There was a constant flow of drinks, and tacos that were full of flavour. Interior is really interesting as they double down on a Mexican inspired style, as it's in Noord I would recommend book...
Coba Amsterdam
Bars
Murmur is my favourite bar in Amsterdam. They bill themselves as a listening bar and I've heard everything from easy jazz on vinyl, to dancing on the tables kinda music to story nights. All accompanied with natural wine, interesting cocktails and sma...
Murmur
Café Alto is an Amsterdam institution. Great live jazz music just off Leidseplein in the centre. It has been running for decades and still gets packed to this day. If you like live music I really recommend this place.
Jazz Café Alto
Newish cocktail bar in Amsterdam serving up interesting drinks, originally to other business until they decided to open a place of their own. If you are looking for something experimental I can recommend this place!
Groovy Fluids | Culinary Lab
One of my favourite places to go for a drink is a hotel bar, it's elevated, classy and most of all relaxing. My pick of the bunch is the Pulitzer Bar. You could walk-in although, your best bet is to book ahead and plan it as a break from shopping or ...
Pulitzer Bar
As an Irishman I have to include an Irish bar in this list. O'Reillys is my pick of the city and I've been going for years. It's a proper Irish bar owned by a great Irish woman. They've loads of little nooks and corners to sit and enjoy a drink. It's...
