Running & Movement for Mental Health

Purple Star emoji 15 items
Running has been great for my mental health throughout the years. Something about the rhythm is the only thing that can get me into a meditative state. Here are my favorite running items.

Running Shoes

Since I had my oldest son, I started having severe splin shints when running. I took A LOT of experimenting (and a lot less road running) to resolve the issue. Here are my top picks for running shoes.

These were my first running shoes, fantastic for a good running shoe at a lower price point than others.

A step up from the Ghosts, these were better for the shin splints I started experiencing after pregnancy.
Women's Glycerin - Brooks ReStart

My current running shoe. They have been the best for preventing shin splints and have lasted a long time.  However, they are more specialized than the Brook's Ghost and Glycerine and are not suitable for uneven surfaces. I find they're not great for exercises like squats and lunges either.  I have cheaper shoes for leg day!
Bondi Road Running Shoes

I generally nab these from the clearance aisle at a Sketcher's store. I don't run in them. Instead, they are my “every day” shoe, and the shoes I wear for leg day, since my running shoes aren't great for that.

Running/Gym Clothes and Accessories

It's a proven “fact” 🤣 that pretty clothes make you run faster.  Right?! In all seriousness though, these are my favorite clothes for running and hitting the gym.

I have a hard time finding sports bras, and for one that lacks any adjustments, this one does a great job.  Look for one designated “high impact."  Mine is a bright, almost obnoxious coral color, and it's fantastic!
Women's High Support Front Zip Bra - All In Motion™ Black 36C

This is my go-to bra, I've bought several throughout the years. Make sure it's the right size! It's so hard to find an adjustable band in sports bras nowadays, and this one seems to be here to stay.

Most of my work out clothes come from TJ Maxx's clearance section. I'm gonna beat them up anyway, no sense in spending a lot of money on them.

The left/right distinction still feels silly, but “real” runners swear by it. I'm cheap, so these are the most expensive socks I own, but they've lasted years, and really do feel so much better running in than just generic athletic socks you can grab...

Love the cute criss cross. And it's sooo hard to find adjustable sports bras!

I read this a lot when I first started running. It's definitely geared towards those that are more serious runners than I am, especially marathoners. But I picked up a lot of tips for improving my form, fueling, and recovery.

I don't use them much anymore, but compression shin sleeves were essential to recovering from shin splints. I didn't find them that helpful for preventing them though.

A must have for shin splint recovery! I have two sets so I could rotate wear them longer when needed.

My preferred app when I'm trying to consistently train for something. The first program is 4 weeks to 1 mile and the most vigorous is 16 weeks to marathon.
