Whether your garden is a collection of pots on the porch, or a plot in your yard
I find a hand shovel to be very useful in small areas, or when your garden consists of multiple pots on the porch. It also helps when relocating your seedling to their forever pot or patch of earth.
Garden Trowels - The Home Depot
Every garden needs dirt. Especially if it has to live on the porch in pots.
Potting Soil - The Home Depot
Lowes is a good choice of store for the price conscious person trying to start a garden without breaking the bank. I know the planters in the pictures look super fancy, but there are definitely more options available for those who simply want a container for their plants.
Rectangle Pots & Planters at Lowes.com
For any climbing vegetables you wish to grow.
Wood - Garden Trellises - The Home Depot
Excellent way to water your garden if you have an outdoor faucet you can hook up to.
Garden Hoses - The Home Depot
If you plan to garden for more than one year, your plants will deplete the nutrients in the soil. This will help replenish the nutrients your plants need.
Jobe's Slow Release Tree & Shrub Fertilizer
For weeding, or in case you don't want dirt collecting under your fingernails that you later have to scrub out.
Gardening Gloves - The Home Depot
A great natural insect and rodent repellant to keep pests off your vegetables.
Ground Cayenne Red Pepper
A good way to water your plants without washing them away.
Watering Cans
For those who can garden in their yard, a fence helps keep out larger pests.
Wire Fencing - The Home Depot
This site should be helpful for anyone who doesn't have much room available for starting a garden. It is still possible! My tiny planter garden yielded quite a few tomatoes my first year, despite the restricted space.

I primarily make tomato sauce with my tomatoes, but they are also great on sandwiches.
I often use scallions for seasonings or salad. They add great flavor to most dishes.

I have always loved zucchini bread, but if you want to do something else with them, they are delicious breaded and fried, or put on a salad for low effort prep.
Zucchini Squash Seeds - True Leaf Market
Can be used in salads or eaten plain if you really like the flavor. Also good for soup.
Burpee Golden Beet Seeds - Vegetable Seeds
Great in salads, on sandwiches, in omelets, or given away to your friends if you grew more than you could eat.
Onion, Granex Yellow Hybrid - Burpee
I use garlic in so many foods that I cook. Great choice for seasoning.

Nothing beats fresh peas. If you like peas, this is how they taste the best.
Potatoes are probably one of the most versatile vegetables out there, bringing us mashed potatoes, chips, fries, and baked potatoes. I like to use them in a breakfast hash with eggs and bacon.
Potato Plants - Fingerling, Sweet and All Purpose Potatoes - Burpee
A delicious summer snack that's as healthy as it is sweet. I can never get enough of these.
Strawberry Plants - Flavorful Fruit Plants - Burpee
Good in soups and salads. I've also seen friends use them in omelets.
