Taking place years after the original story, I absolutely love the new aesthetic that Tim Burton brings to the film and what's at stake for Alice this time around.
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
I really wish this was turned into a full franchise but I don't think they would be able to keep up with all of the books that Jeff Kinney has since released.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)
This is purely a guilty pleasure
Grown Ups (2010)
The one that introduced us to the minions, the first and second films will always be my personal favorites.
Despicable Me (2010)
The trio alone beginning to go on their final journey together makes this a worthy watch. As are all of the Harry Potter films.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)
A refreshing retake on the story of Rapunzel, all of the characters in the film are so likeable. Even the bad guys.
Tangled (2010)
In my opinion, what the Oscars should have given Best Picture to. At least Natalie Portman earned great best actress wins of the century so far.
Black Swan (2010)
2011
Even funnier than the first film that came out the previous year
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2011)
An underrated film directed by J.J. Abrams about a group of teenagers who film their own Super 8 movie.
Super 8
A satisfying conclusion to the franchise
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
For me, this is when the Planet of the Apes franchise became worth watching.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
Great performances from the ensemble all around
The Help (2011)
This movie is more factual than you actually think and became more relevant after a certain event at the beginning of the following decade.
Contagion (2011)
A worthy spin off to the Shrek franchise. The sequel “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” came out over a decade later. And yet, I say it even tops this one :)
Puss in Boots (2011)
A now underrated adaptation of the book “The Invention of Hugo Cabret”
Hugo (2011)
A great return to the big screen. I truly wish that there were more sequels to this movie besides “Muppets Most Wanted”
The Muppets (2011)
A fascinating take on the filming of “The Prince and The Showgirl”
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
2012
All of the films are worth a watch, but it's the first one for me :)
The Hunger Games (2012)
This may rank lower for most in the filmography of Tim Burton, but I still think it's worth a watch. Especially if you haven't seen the series that inspired the film. Plus, I really enjoyed the references to 1970s pop culture :)
Dark Shadows (2012)
With a song like “Afro Circus”, I found this to be an even better sequel that “Madagascar Escape 2 Africa”.
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (2012)
Clearly, I really enjoyed Tim Burton's work this year. I just found this to be a touching, full-length version of his 1984 short.
Frankenweenie (2012)
Who knew we'd all enjoy a movie about an all female acapella group complete with snarky jokes?
Pitch Perfect (2012)
A worthy big screen version of the iconic musical
Les Misérables (2012)
This film proves that Neil Jordan should be responsible for directing all future vampire movies.
Byzantium (2012)
2013
Watch this for the soundtrack and Baz Luhrman's aesthetic.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
An underrated dramedy starring Ben Stiller on a quest for the final issue of Life Magazine
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Leo should have won the Oscar for this
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
A well-acted black comedy ensemble film based on the play of the same name.
August: Osage County (2013)
2014
I know the live action Disney remakes are a mixed bag, but the first Maleficent movie is a guilty pleasure of mine :)
Maleficent (2014)
One of the few films to make me cry in the theater
The Fault in Our Stars (2014)
Andy Serkis as Caesar really made these films worth watching.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
I don't understand why Jake Gyllenhaal wasn't possibly nominated for an Oscar for this one…He should have won too.
Nightcrawler (2014)
2015
I'd like to argue that it's reminiscent of golden age SpongeBob
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015)
My first proof that Sean Baker deserves even more credit than given as a filmmaker.
Tangerine (2015)
Should have given Johnny Depp another Best Actor Oscar nomination
Black Mass (2015)
This movie was meant for I-MAX.
The Walk (2015)
Both Brie Larson (And Jacob Tremblay!) are Oscar worthy in this.
Room (2015)
I really wished Blue Sky made more Peanuts movies :/
The Peanuts Movie (2015)
A glorious return of the franchise. This was the best of the sequel trilogy.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
If Leo didn't win an Oscar for this one, then the Academy had another thing coming.
The Revenant (2015)
2016
Once again, another guilty pleasure. I don't think Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy mixed in with zombies is that bad at all.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
A funny and intelligent film about modern day society
Zootopia (2016)
The most unhinged film about food that you'll ever see
Sausage Party (2016)
The best of the Harry Potter prequel trilogy
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
2017
People talk about the mini series with Tim Curry, but the big screen version is just as good.
It (2017)
Sean Baker really brings the best out of any actor.
The Florida Project (2017)
A great film about the Day of the Dead holiday with compelling characters all around.
Coco (2017)
This reminds me of Beauty and the Beast in the best way possible.
The Shape of Water (2017)
2018
An important film to watch. Chadwick Boseman was gone way too soon.
Black Panther (2018)
Can't wait to see more of what John Krasinski and Emily Blunt can come up with together :)
A Quiet Place (2018)
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper have emotional, electrifying chemistry. And the soundtrack is a banger.
A Star Is Born (2018)
It was great to finally see the life of Freddie Mercury on screen. And hear my voice amongst the many in the Live Aid scene (I have email proof! I swear! Lol)
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
2019
This proves the Academy needs to give horror more recognition. Lupita Nyong'o should have been nominated for Best Actress.
Us (2019)
2
A fun film to watch if you're a Beatles fan
Yesterday (2019)
Great choices for the adult cast :)
Chapter Two (2019)
Joaquin Phoenix steals the show. Figuratively and literally.
Joker (2019)
A great addition to the many adaptations of my favorite book :)
