I used to think all splitters were the same cheap junk. Turns out the $2 gas station ones cut volume in half and add static. These are the ones that survived six months of my kid yanking them out of the console.

My 2012 sedan has no aux jack and the FM transmitter I was using sounded like AM radio underwater. Switching to Bluetooth transmitters was the moment everything clicked.

Earbuds fall out when my kid leans against the window to nap. Over-ear headphones made his ears sweat after twenty minutes. Finding the right pair for car use specifically took me longer than I want to admit.

I went through four aux cables in one year because they kept fraying right where they plug in. Started paying attention to build quality and stopped replacing cables every other month.

Sometimes headphones are not the answer. My kid gets carsick wearing them. So I figured out how to create two quiet audio zones using small speakers aimed in different directions. Weird, but it works.

Getting the hardware right was only half the problem. Figuring out how to run two different audiobooks from one phone without losing my place in either one took some trial and error.
