Our first easel tipped over within ten minutes and my four-year-old lost it. These are the ones that survived daily abuse from kids who think they're real teachers.

We burned through three packs of cheap markers in the first week. These actually last and don't stain their hands permanently.

Nothing makes a five-year-old feel more like a real teacher than slapping magnetic letters on a board and quizzing their younger sibling.

Half the magic is in the props. Once I gave them a fake attendance sheet and a whistle, they stopped asking for screen time entirely.

They refused to play school sitting on the floor. The second I added a little desk, they started raising their hands to speak. I can't make this up.

My daughter stands at her easel and ‘reads’ picture books to a row of stuffed animals. She holds the book facing outward just like her real teacher does and it melts me every time.

Every play school needs an art period. These are the supplies that don't end up permanently on my walls or embedded in the carpet.

Within three days our play school supplies were scattered across every room. These bins and organizers saved my sanity and my bare feet from marker caps.

Once I hung a star chart on the wall next to the easel, my kids started giving each other gold stars for cleaning up. Accidentally taught responsibility through a game.
