I spent 4 days in Lisbon and this is everything i would recommend and do when visiting! Enjoy the adventure!
Unpopular opinion: Lisboa
Unpopular opinion: The best view in Lisbon isn’t from a tower with a two-hour line. 🤫
I was this close to doing the ‘correct’ tourist thing and heading to Belém, but my gut sent me to Palácio da Fronteira instead.
I was basically living in a 17th-century blue-tiled fever dream. 🏛️💙 no photos are allowed inside the building but it’s stunning!
The Marquis who built this was stripped of his titles by the King, so he had the tiles painted with scenes of commoners mocking aristocrats.
Moving into a palace just to be petty? 10/10
Sorry Belem tower it rained to much the next day to visit but I guess I’ll just have to go back to Lisbon what a shame
Are you a must-see or a hidden gem hunter? Tell me the one famous landmark you’re actually glad you skipped. 👇

Traveling to EU doesnt have to be expense when RT is less than $500 to here
Normally it’s exploring with Lexi but soon it will be exploring in Lisbon!
This is one of my top picks for my solo travelers as I loved traveling around this city last fall!
It felt super safe , pretty well lit downtown and for the new travelers most people speak English making it easy to get around!
It has a great mix of museums , views and relaxing energy!
Not to mention you can flight RT for less than $500 from LA , less than $600 from Den and DC! Gasp!
Lisbon is loading so get ready ☺️
What makes you book a trip? Good flight deals? Museums? History? Fun vibes?

Day 3 in Lisbon
Here’s how my third day as an American in Lisbon went:
The Museum: Lisbon Museum gave me everything; history, beautiful grounds, and peacocks just casually wandering around like they own the place. Nobody warned me about the peacocks 😂
The Market: Mercado da Ribeira, also known as the Time Out Market, is controlled chaos in the best way possible. So many food options, zero regrets.
The Hidden Gem: Museu das Comunicações completely surprised me. Design, technology, history all under one roof, genuinely one of the most underrated spots in the city.
The Food: As Bifanas do Afonso. A Portuguese pork sandwich
Planning a Lisbon trip in 2026? Save this and add every single one of these to your list.
Which stop would you hit first, the market or the museum?

Pov: your in Lisbon
I didn’t expect to like Lisbon as much as I did. It’s not perfect. The hills are real. You’ll get tired walking. And the trams are often packed with tourists. 🙋♀️
But there’s something about the city that slows you down in a good way. Maybe it’s the viewpoints.
Lisbon has a lot of them. You walk up a hill, a bit out of breath, and suddenly the whole city opens up in front of you.
You sit for a minute. Then a few more. Then get ice cream 🍦 and that ends up being the best part of the day.
If you’re planning a trip here, here’s a simple tip: Don’t overpack your schedule. and bring good walking shoes and if you’re thinking about solo travel, this city is a good place to start. It’s walkable. Easy to get around. Most people speak English
So if Lisbon has been on your mind for a while, maybe take the hint. Save this for when you start planning your trip.
Follow for more solo travel tips and places that are actually worth the visit.

this is what its like to visit Lisbon
Some cities you visit. Some cities visit you. Lisbon was the second kind. I didn’t expect to feel so much walking through it.
The light hits differently there, golden and soft in a way that makes everything look like it’s already a memory while you’re still living it.
Some cities just feel like you lived there in a past life I came in with no expectations and left with a city permanently living rent free in my head. 🧡
If Lisbon isn’t on your list yet, let this be your sign. Full Day 1 itinerary is out just comment

St. George’s Castle
St. George’s Castle is one of those places that genuinely stops you mid-step. You’re climbing, you’re slightly out of breath, you’re wondering if it’s worth it, and then you get to the top and completely forget every single thing you were stressed about.
Just you, the rooftops of Lisbon, and the Tagus river stretching out in the distance.
Worth every step of the climb 🏰
Have you been, or is Lisbon on your list?

Lisbon guide
Lisbon completely stole my heart and I honestly wish I had more time there.
It’s one of those cities where you can just walk around, sip a coffee, look at the tiles, and suddenly 6 hours passed.
If you’re landing in Lisbon for the first time, here is the non-negotiable itinerary I’d give you:
🔹Rua Augusta Arch: Start here. Walk through it toward the waterfront and let the city officially welcome you. It sets the tone immediately.
🔹Santa Justa Lift: Iconic iron elevator with a view from the top. I skipped going up but worth walking by
🔹Carmo Convent: Carmo has an open roofless nave, that’s honestly one of the most striking things I’ve seen in Europe.
🔹Bertrand Chiado: The oldest operating bookshop in the world. Even if you don’t buy a book, go for the history; definitely worth it.
🔹A Brasileira: Order a “Bica” (espresso) at this iconic café. This is a Lisbon rite of passage.
🔹Ginjinha: A shot of cherry liquor for about a dollar. It’s a local tradition, do it right before dinner. Cash only
🔹São Pedro de Alcântara: My favorite viewpoint. Golden hour here if you can time it. The view over the city is everything.
I’m already planning my return.

Dating in Lisbon
Lisbon was NOT on my radar. Then I went. Now I can’t stop talking about it. I have navigated foreign cities alone, figured out transit systems in languages I don’t speak, and eaten at restaurants by myself without flinching.
But apparently all of that means nothing when a cute guy walks into a food hall. 😭
I spotted him across the room and suddenly forgot every single confident bone in my body. I circled his table three times — THREE — telling myself I was “building courage.”
By lap three I realized I wasn’t giving mysterious solo traveler. I was giving Great White Shark. 🦈
So naturally I fled to the other side of the building and bought a donut instead. 10/10 for the donut. 0/10 for my game.
I really thought I was about to have my little rom-com moment abroad.

Day 2: Lisbon Guide
Here’s how my second day as an American in Lisbon went: The High: São Jorge Castle views over the entire city — absolutely unreal.
Plus walking around a castle! The Surprise: Finding this giant historic bell hidden inside the castle grounds 🔔 views:meh glass of wine yes please!
The Food: Finally trying Portugal’s most famous dish — Bacalhau (codfish). Locals say there are 365 ways to cook it and one was good for me 😂
The Hidden Gem: The incredible gardens and azulejos at Palace of the Marquesses of Fronteira.
Lisbon continues to surprise me — castles, incredible food, and hidden palaces around every corner. If you’re planning a trip here in 2026, add these to your itinerary.

10 things to do in Lisbon
So here are 10 things to do in Lisbon
⬇️1. Explore St. George’s Castle - the views from up here are unreal. Worth every step of the climb.
2. Lunch at Mercado da Ribeira - the Time Out Market. Grab a seat at the communal tables and just eat everything.
3. Grab a sandwich at As Bifanas do Afonso - a simple Portuguese pork sandwich that is a staple in Lisbon
4. Visit the Iconic 16th century tower - Torre de Belém is one of the most iconic buildings in Portugal. I missed this but wish I would have visited
5. Wander through the Lisbon Museum - It has more context on the city’s history than you’d expect
6. Tour Fronteira Palace - A hidden gem with stunning azulejo tile gardens, completely underrated and far fewer tourists than Sintra or so I’ve heard.
7. Discover Museu das Comunicações - Wildly cool if you’re curious about design and technology history.
8. Catch a golden hour at a miradouro - just pick any viewpoint and be there at sunset. You’ll understand why people never want to leave.
9. Stroll through Rossio Square - the heart of downtown Lisbon. Grab a coffee, watch the city move around you, and just soak it all in.
10. Ginjinha - cherry liquor in a tiny glass at a street kiosk. It’s a whole Lisbon ritual and costs almost nothing. Cash only

first 24hrs in Lisbon
Here’s how my first 24 hours as an American in Lisbon went:
The High: Carmo Convent
The Low: Realizing my GPS doesn’t understand these narrow alleys and knee pain ⛰️
The Vibe: 10/10. The light here is basically a permanent Instagram filter.
Ladies, if you’re planning a solo trip or a girls’ getaway, put Lisbon at the top of your list. It feels so safe, the people are lovely, and every corner is a photo op.

How much I spent $
Lisbon is honestly one of the most affordable cities I’ve visited in Western Europe, but I’m also a splurge traveler so let’s be real about what that actually looked like 😂
The city itself is very wallet-friendly compared to Paris, London, or Amsterdam. But between the food, the museums, the day trips, and the little moments in between, it adds up faster than you think. A few tips if you want to do Lisbon on a budget:
1. Walk everywhere you can. Lisbon is incredibly walkable and most of the best spots, the viewpoints, the streets, the architecture cost absolutely nothing to enjoy.
2. Eat away from the tourist spots. A meal near a landmark will cost you double what the same meal costs two streets away. I learned this firsthand 😂
3. Skip the airport taxi. Use the metro, it’s cheap, easy, and goes straight into the city center. But if you have luggage be prepare for stairs
4. Pastel de nata from a local bakery costs about €1.20. From a tourist spot? Double that. You already know what I’m going to say. 😂
Lisbon is genuinely one of those cities where you can have an incredible trip without spending a fortune, or you can splurge and not feel guilty about it either. Both are valid.
Save this for your next trip and follow for more travel guides and tips! Was $843.65 too much to spend on 5 days in Lisbon? . .
