All of my Children have graduated and my daughter is off to college:) Since I already did an off to college list- I though I would do a K-12 back to school list to help you get everything squared away before the first day of school hits.
High School
High School kids have an extensive list as they have more teachers who need various things for subjects and extracurriculars.

For young children, it's ok to go with a lighter duty school backpack. Walmart had the most cost-efficient and largest selection backpacks for young kids.
