Hysterectomy Recovery
This is the least glamorous list ever. I had a full hysterectomy (ovaries, cervix, the whole deal) in October at the age of 48. Recovery was fine with the help of my family and some supplies.
This blanket was a godsend. I was super anxious - this was my first surgery and I was a hot mess.
Essential! Drink lots of water!
This pillow has made it so much easier for me to lounge and still be upright.
My surgery was outpatient, but I was instructed to bring a change of clothes and toiletries, just in case. Everything fit nicely in this bag.
I lived in these wraps for weeks!
Music relaxes me. I popped in one AirPod while in pre-op so I could listen to my playlist and also be aware/converse with my husband and the hospital staff.
This is the list that got me through pre-op for my hysterectomy.
Satin scrunchies are critical for avoiding hair breakage. This are super affordable and good quality.
Of course I'm using hyperbole when I say I can't live without this lip mask. The thing is, I don't WANT to live without this lip mask.
This cup, but with a straw lid was contantly by my side. I generally prefer the MagSlider, but the straw was clutch for a week or so.
Dry shampoo was the way to go for a good while post-surgery. This is my favorite.
I have two sets of these! I originally bought them, mostly because of the crop top, when I was recovering from abdominal surgery, but they've become a staple in my pj wardrobe. I get warm when I sleep so the crop top is clutch and I love the cardigan...
I'm not proud, but these are some of my favorite shoes. I wore these to/from the hospital and for a couple of weeks after. Bending over to slide on shoes was not an option.
I *love* this set. I had surgery in October that left me in early menopause until we got everything leveled out. I loved having a robe I easily take off and on depending on the hot flash situation. 😭

I think these are my new favorite leggings! I'm super into the flare and feel like they really balance my figure. Again, these are super soft with slight compression. There are even pockets!
Totally random rec: These camis are the perfect length and compression. I spent a lot of time in one of these, an Athleta wrap, and leggings. There was a good amount of support without intense compression, which my surgeon warned me about. I got an X...
I'm sorry to have to make this recommendation, but you will be thankful for it, I promise. Between the anesthesia and loss of appetite your whole digestive system will be a mess.
There were a few weeks where fiber gummies were essential. I prefer sugar free, but you do you.
My GYN recommended adding a prenatal vitamin back into my life. She stressed the need for DHA and calcium, since a loss of bone density is a risk. Obviously, check with your doctor before you start messing around with supplements after your surgery!
Having a tray for my bed was super helpful. I spent a lot of time reading and fooling around on my iPad and having something to prop it on made me more comfortable.
This is humbling, but it hurt like a MFer to try to bed over. This stupid thing was a life saver.
I'm not a huge audio book reader, but was happy to have an Audible trial for a bit.
These crop bra/tops were nice for the first week or so while I was nervous about my incisions.
This is so random, but bring a Squishmallow or squishy pillow with you to the hospital. You'll want something between your body and your seatbelt on your way home post-surgery.
