Rock painting must haves!

Purple Star emoji 25 items
I love Painting inspirational rocks to leave for others to find. It's a great way to express your creativity and to brighten sometime else’s day. I've been painting rocks for a couple of years now and have discovered some really great tools of the trade. Here’s some of my favorite rock painting supplies

Pens and markers

These pens are great for writing and painting on rocks. They give a little bit better control than a paint brush just in case you’re not an artist like me.

Paint

Using a good base paint is really important and these are the ones that I’ve found to be best. I prefer to use an outdoor paint as my base color as it gives the rock an added layer of protection and I know the rock will safe to leave outdoors for someone else to find. Don’t skip the sealant though! I’m really happy with all these brands, I just love to have a wide variety of colors to choose from so I bought all three.

Paintbrushes

I like a variety of paint brushes in my stash. Wider ones are best for putting on the primer coat and the base color while smaller ones work best for small areas and detail work. I don’t spend a lot of money on brushes. Although I do wash them after using them, they eventually either get stiff or start to fall apart. I don’t feel bad throwing the cheaper ones away.

Sealer

It’s always important to seal your rocks! You don’t want all of your hard work to be ruined! All me how I know… This brush on sealer is my favorite! But I know some prefer spray on for the convenience so I’ve included it here. And don’t forget to seal the bottoms!

Primer paint

Putting a primer coat on a rock before the base coat gives you a smooth surface to work with. I find I use less base paint when I prime as well. I prefer a matte finish white acrylic paint. I don’t put a lot of money into a primer coat. I use it to make the rock less porous and to allow my base paint color to adhere better and apply more evenly.

Not necessarily have to haves, just very convenient items that just make painting easier. I do a fair amount of rocks in a year, so having those items that just make it easier is always welcome!
