Funding Hope From a Hospital Bed: Tools That Actually Pay
Hi, I'm Jennie. Right now I'm writing this from a hospital bed in Alexandria, Louisiana, learning to breathe with what's left of my right lung after surgeons removed most of it — and facing another surgery Tuesday. My lights and water are off at home, and I'm facing homelessness when I'm discharged. I have no income, but I have something I didn't expect: time to think, and a lifetime of things I've learned about building something from nothing. This list is for anyone in a hard place — sick, stuck, broke, or just starting over — and for anyone who has ever dreamed of starting something that helps people. Every tool here is something I use, or something I'm joining myself, because it can actually bring money in while you heal, rest, or rebuild. Some pay when someone buys. Some pay every month a subscriber stays. None of them are magic. All of them are real. If my story moves you, please share this list. A share costs nothing and can change everything. #ad — Some links on this list are affiliate links. If you buy through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Thank you for supporting my recovery and my work. My campaign: https://gofund.me/c4f05bf47 Start your own nonprofit If my story stirs something in you — if you've ever thought, "someone should help people like us" — maybe that someone is you. I founded Legacy Way Alliance from nothing but a conviction: Legacy is Love in Action. We serve seniors and families, and we're preparing to assist Avoyelles Parish with its animal welfare needs. Starting your own nonprofit begins with three honest steps: 1. Name the people you ache for. Not "everyone" — the ones whose faces you see when you close your eyes. Mine are seniors who feel forgotten. 2. Gather two or three good hearts. A nonprofit is never a solo act. Find people who believe in the mission, not just the idea. 3. Write the mission down, then take the first small legal step. Incorporate, form your board, and begin the 501(c)(3) application — it takes time, and I'm still walking that road myself. The paperwork is slow; the love is immediate. You don't need money to begin. You need a reason, a few faithful people, and the courage to start while things are still imperfect. If I can build this from a hospital bed, you can begin from wherever you are.
