It's good to be prepared on short hikes just as well as long hikes or overnight trips! I have found I prefer to carry a small pack with these few items instead of regretting that I don't have something half way through the hike.

This is an absolute must item, I take it on all my hikes and runs! If you have to pop a squat this is a washable antimicrobial cloth to use in place of a leaf or toilet paper. No littering!

This is a really good alternate to a water bottle if you can spend a little extra. It gives good peace-of-mind. If you are hiking near a water source, you can refill you water bottle wherever you need to and be sure that you have clean water!
