Outside's Switchback gear show preview got me dreaming about next season, so here's what I'm eyeing for 2027 on our Gilbert desert trails. I have three kids, so it's all practical: shoes that grip rocky ground, enough water for 100°+ mornings, and su...

Shoes
The Mont Blanc Speed 2 drops Spring 2027 (~$200) with a Pebax plate and 5mm Megagrip lugs. It was a Switchback standout. Until then, this is the current women's Mont Blanc Speed, and I'm watching for the update.
Women's Mont Blanc Speed
The cult-favorite GOAT got a bouncier midsole and gaiter integration, which matters a lot when every desert trail is basically kitty litter.
Women's Speedgoat 7
Brooks finally put Vibram Megagrip on the Cascadia, and it still has the roomy toe box. This is the one I'm most excited about for long, rocky, do-everything days.
It's lighter and more nimble, with full Megagrip and wide sizing. It looks like the shoe for quick before-school loops.
Peregrine 16
It's zero-drop with a wide toe box, which is what my feet want when they swell on hot summer runs.
Women's Lone Peak 9+
Hydration & Packs
UD's women's vest for longer days. It's built for a woman's frame, so the bottles shouldn't bounce, and it has pockets everywhere.
Ultra Vesta 6.0
Electrolytes are non-negotiable in the desert. I want this salty variety pack stocked in my pantry and my pack.
LMNT Zero Sugar Electrolytes Variety Pack 18-Count
An insulated handheld for short runs, because in Arizona it's the difference between cold water at mile 3 and warm tea.
Nathan Quick Squeeze Lite Handheld Bottle
This is a women's-specific Osprey Dyna LT vest with room for a lot of water, which you need here. It also has space for snacks, sunscreen, and whatever the kids handed me at the trailhead.
Dyna LT Run Hydration Vest
Apparel & Sun Protection
Trail shorts with a 4" inseam and pockets that can actually hold my phone and gels. Pockets are a big deal for a ruthlessly efficient runner.
W's 4" Trail Short
A brim and some airflow for sunrise miles, when the desert sun comes up fast.
Trailbreaker Breaker Hat
Flylow's snap sun shirt was a hit at Switchback, but it's men's only for now. This is Outdoor Research's women's sun hoodie, so I'm grabbing it while I wait.
Women's Echo Hoodie
A UPF running hoodie from Under Armour. Covering up is cooler than baking in a tank top in July, I promise.
UA Explor Iso-Chill UPF Women's Hoodie
A Brooks sports bra with a pocket for my phone. Hands-free carrying is efficient, and I'm here for it.
Luxe Pocket Sports Bra
Tech & Extras
Long battery life, free offline topo maps, and a 42mm size that fits a smaller wrist. Navigation for unfamiliar trails without a subscription is my love language.
COROS APEX 4 | Mountain Sports GPS Watch for Training and Racing.
Women's toe socks for trail. No blisters and no grit between my toes is a small luxury I want for 2027.
Women's Trail Midweight Mini-Crew
The 42mm Forerunner 570 is light and bright, with multi-band GPS. It's a great everyday-plus-trail watch if you're team Garmin.
Garmin Forerunner® 570, 42mm, Aluminum, Black
Summer in the desert means running in the dark to beat the heat. A light, bounce-free headlamp like the Petzl Tikka is on my list.
