Ritchie Blackmore's best albums

Purple Star emoji 16 items
With Ritchie Blackmore's brief appearance with Deep Purple for thie first time since the 1990s, I thought this was a good time to list my favourite albums by rock guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.  Every list like this is subjective and I'm sure if I was to decide this list in a few weeks I would probably have different albums in here - but here goes..

My favourite Deep Purple album with Ritchie Blackmore - from rock to even a country style song, this album highlights the range of styles the band could play and all of it underwritten by Blackmore's distinctive guitar.

Some classic Purple tracks on this album including Highway Star and Lazy but any album with Smoke on the Water has to be included in a list of Blackmore's best albums.

The comeback album, Blackmore and Gillan push their fued to one side to help produce the new Mk2 Deep Purple album. Some great songs in here including Perfect Strangers which have maintained their place in the live set.

The album that secured Deep Purple as the classic heavy rock band.  From Jon Lord's swirling Hammond Organ to Blackmore's fire on guitar this album helped to promote heavy rock and inspired musicians around the world.
Deep Purple in Rock

The live album that every other band wanted to make.  Capturing the full flow of Purple in a live setting, their improvisation, their skill and the power they brought to all the songs on this album were immense.  It's not an album to be played quietly - turn it up and enjoy!

Jon Lord's masterpiece fusing rock and classical music.  Powerful and musical - featuring some great work from the whole band but especially Ritchie's guitar work.

A brilliant return Deep Purple following their reunion.  A superb live concert featuring a wide range of bands, unfortunately spoiled by the extremely poor sound crew (although when Purple came on everything fell into place) and the non-stop rain. Despite this it was worth getting soaked to hear the Purple...

Rainbow

This also come high up on any list of greatest rock albums and rightly so. Blackmore lined up with the incredible Ronnie James Dio, the dynamic Cozy Powell and not forgetting Jimmy Bain and Tony Carey this is one of the best rock albums of all time.  The B side with Stargazer and A Light in the Black highlight the best of classic rock.
Rising (Rainbow album)

This album shows how powerful Rainbow were as a live band.  Powerfully recreating songs from Rainbows then catalogue it highlights not only Blackmore's skill but also the backing of an extremely talented band.

With Ronnie James Dio gone, Blackmore aimed for a more commercial sound and brought the powerful voice of Graham Bonnet into the band as well as introducing former Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover.  More commercial sound but still distinctively Blackmore on guitar.

The first Raimbow album with Blackmore basically backed by Ronnie James Dio's bankd Elf. It provides a great insight into how the band was going to develop.

Another album another new singer - the first album with Joe Lynn Turner providing the vocals. Some great guitar work from Ritchie on Maybe Next Time and Ritchie's version of Beethoven's 9th Symphony - Difficult to Cure.

A bit of an odd one here but still worth listening to Blackmore playing more straight rock and roll style along with guitarists Albert Lee and Big Jim Sullivan.
Green Bullfrog (1971)

Ritchie's first album as Blackmore's Night, featuring his wife Candice Night as the lead singer.  A slower pace but still some great guitar work from Ritchie.
