To me, "Cottagecore" is a bit more than florals, or your grandmother's quilts. There's a certain whimsical return to nature, with unique textures and colorful pops that make you feel like a living storybook. I love this aesthetic so much that I also try to incorporate it in my home and everyday outfits. To the best of my knowledge, everything is free of AI designs, as well as plenty coming from small and handmade sellers.

For a majority of my life I could categorize myself as someone midsize-plus size, curvy, what-have-you, which has made shopping for clothes difficult at times. This was especially apparent when I lived abroad and so many boutiques were explicitly selling limited sizes/"free-size" (one size only, good luck). As much as I preferred shopping locally or at small businesses, I wanted clothes that fit as well as made me feel good. Even today I still peruse Cider, because I like their mission impact for safe production and preventing textile waste. I'm not sponsored – I just really like Cider lol. Every item is something I've purchased for myself or others, on my wish-list, or just a really nice find (that may be on sale!)

When I first moved out, both into this economy and my first "big-girl" apartment, it felt like a crash course in figuring out essentials, (just how many everyday things I needed, apparently) and how to save with my limited paycheck. I realized that these eco-friendly things weren't greenwashing to take extra $$$, but having things that last will save you over spending again and again in the long run. I use several of these items listed, and hope it inspires others!

I love K-beauty, J-beauty, and great budget finds. After living in South Korea for several years, I can personally attest to the items I use practically every day! I was first inspired to make this list after coming across Heroine Make mascara in an Olive Young cosmetic store. Because I naturally have longer lashes, but hooded lids, I've struggled to find mascara I liked that looked like my lashes, but also didn't immediately smudge everywhere. Genuinely, I've been hooked on it ever since.

Say that five times fast! These are local recommendations by a person born and raised in Midcoast Maine; I've personally been to and vetted each of these locations. This list is a WIP and may be updated periodically; so to fellow Mainers, I am taking suggestions!
