Junji Ito
Junji Ito is one of my favorite horror authors. Here are the manga I loved.
This has one of my all time favourite stories from Ito which is Tomb Town. I read this before it was translated officially so I was delighted to see it as the cover title. It also has two more of my favs which is Washed Ashore and The Strange Tale Of...
Tombs: Junji Ito Story Collection|Hardcover
I think I've read almost everything Junji Ito has put out so far and Smashed is one of my favorite collections. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like Souichi though as there's a few stories with him.
Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection|Hardcover
This story collection has some colour panels and posters which I hadn't seen before. Such a stunning cover and some great stories inside.
Venus in the Blind Spot|Hardcover
Uzumaki is the most well known of Ito's work and if you watched the unfortunate Adult Swim anime adaption and haven't read this, please do. I promise it's amazing and well worth reading.
Uzumaki (3-in-1 Deluxe Edition)|Hardcover
The second installment of the Liminal Zone, I really love this design and the stories are quite good.
Liminal Zone, Vol. 2|Hardcover
Novels
It's a bestseller for a reason. I've never read anything like it. It's a mystery told through pictures drawn by a woman who passes away. I never solve the mystery before the reveal but maybe you can!
Strange Pictures: A Novel|Paperback
If you liked Strange Pictures, you'll enjoy this. It's about a house with a very strange layout. I never solve the mystery before the reveal but maybe you can!
Strange Houses: A Novel|Paperback
If you're like me and only read a longer book (600+pages) once in a blue moon then make this your top priority on your tbr of long books. It’s harrowing, disturbing and deeply engrossing.
Our Share of Night|eBook
I've never been jumpscared by a book before but somehow
Intercepts: a horror novel
How amazing is this cover? It also glows in the dark. I’ve wanted to read this for ages and if you have, please let me know if it’s as scary as the film!
The Exorcist Deluxe Limited Edition: A Novel|Hardcover
CW major triggers for animal cruelty. This is Solaris meets The Thing meets Event Horizon. Disturbing, disorientating and reminds me of why I hate the ocean.
The deep
Do you like ARGS? Or House Of Leaves? A dizzying tale filled with mystery, time bending events and…Reddit? Give it a go if that sounds like something you'd like.
Marcus Kliewer: We Used To Live Here [2024] paperback
A lost film leads to a murder mystery that may or may involve magic. I loved the characters, this is a must read and a good introduction to horror.
If you've read The Mist or seen the film, you NEED to read this.
Downpour
My favourite book. I will not elaborate actually.
The Haar: A Horror Novel
For those interested in a novel within a novel, I've never read a book with the concept so uniquely written.
You've Lost a Lot of Blood
Before The Hunger Games or Battle Royale, there was King's The Long Walk. Of its time and ahead of its time, it's a must read.
The Bachman books
If extreme horror is your thing, you'll “enjoy” The Fog (not to be confused with John Carpenter's film of the same name). Enjoy as in, well, be shocked and disturbed. This felt so ahead of its time yet also very 1970s. Make sure to check CWs. For those that like The Sadness or The Crazies.
The Fog
Please check CWs. A group of Boy Scouts end up on an island and things go very, very wrong. Heartbreaking and disturbing.
The troop
I've heard nothing but good things about this book, definitely top of my TBR. If you've read this, let me know what you think of it?

Agustina Bazterrica: Nineteen Claws and a Black Bird [2023] paperback
Harrowing short stories that will stay with you long after you've read them.
Mariana Enriquez: The Dangers of Smoking in Bed: Mariana Enriquez [2022] paperback
For fans of Lovecraft and gothic horror, Helpmeet is a novella about a wife caring for her sick husband.
Helpmeet
Another very quick but impactful read. A couple struggles to adapt to their new home.
The Country Will Bring Us No Peace
Clive Barker is most known for Hellraiser (The Hellbound Heart) but The Books of Blood have some of his other well known adapted short stories including Rawhead Rex, The Body Politic and The Midnight Meat Train.
Books of blood
Volume 5 features The Forbidden (adapted as the iconic film Candyman)
Books of blood
It went viral on TikTok for a reason.a disturbing dystopia where the only meat on the menu is us.
Agustina Bazterrica: Tender is the Flesh: The dystopian cannibal horror everyone is talking about! Tiktok made me buy it!: Agustina Bazterrica [2020] paperback
Not only does this feature The Mist and the recently adapted The Monkey, but some of my fav King stories including Survivor Type, The Jaunt and The Raft.
Stephen King: Skeleton Crew: featuring The Mist [2012] paperback
