The moment a squirrel hops on, the feeding ports close. Watched one try for twenty minutes straight before giving up — genuinely the most satisfying thing I've seen in my backyard.

Steel cage around the tube means only small birds get through. My squirrels used to chew through plastic like it was butter — they literally cannot get their teeth on these.

Hanging feeders from tree branches was my first mistake — squirrels are Olympic-level leapers. Moving everything to a standalone pole system with a baffle changed the entire dynamic overnight.

Squirrels went absolutely feral over suet cakes in my old open feeder. Replaced everything with caged and upside-down designs — now only woodpeckers and nuthatches bother showing up.

Not gonna lie, part of the appeal here is pure comedy. These feeders spin when something heavy climbs on and gently fling squirrels off. My kids request popcorn for the show.

Moved a feeder directly onto my kitchen window with suction cups. Squirrels stare from the ground while I drink coffee three inches from a cardinal. Honestly the best bird watching setup I've ever had.

Discovered that squirrels mostly hate nyjer seed — they'll sniff it and walk away. Stocking these with thistle brought in goldfinches by the dozen while squirrels raided the sunflower feeder next door instead.

Capsaicin-treated seed was the plot twist I didn't see coming. Birds can't taste the heat but squirrels absolutely can. Combined with the right feeder, it's basically a fortress.

Even with squirrel-proof feeders, I learned the hard way that placement and extras matter. A feeder in the wrong spot or without a proper baffle is still a squirrel playground.
