Dead phone battery plus dark street equals bad time. After my phone died mid-walk three miles from home with no streetlights, I stopped leaving anything to chance.

Half my evening walks include my 60-pound lab who thinks every shadow is a squirrel. Keeping both of us visible and under control after dark required some upgrades beyond a regular leash.

Coming home sore and stiff was making me dread the next evening walk. These post-walk habits turned recovery from an afterthought into something I actually look forward to.
