Quilting Tools for Beginners
Missouri Star Quilt Co is my go-to for fabric, supplies and quilting inspiration. The free tutorials always get my ideas started. Here are the must-haves to start. I've only been quilting for 1-year. The right tools got me going and now I'm hooked.
Beginner quilters will find this tool so helpful when working with yardage or pre-cut fabrics. This size is very efficient and a must as you set-up or expand your clothing space.
You can make hundreds of quilt patters with just this ruler + 5" x 15" in your ruler library. It's small, efficient in size and a must have for your next project. Also great for coasters, hot pads and mini projects.
Cutting is a major part of quilting. And with a rotary cutter will will need a good cutting mat. Bigger the better. Fill your space with a cutting surface.
Stop with the scissors unless you are trimming thread. For the guts of your quilt cutting use a quality rotary cutter. Just replace the blades when they get dull. Comfortable, smooth and aint' she pretty!?!
When your cutting slows down you probably need to replace your blade. Sharper the better. Keep a pack of these on hand all the time. I like to replace after each quilt project.
My fave scissors for fabric and thread. (nothing else) I keep them by my machine at all times. Snipping thread with ease or trimming fabric where needed. Get them!!
Thread comes in all brands and sizes. I find this breaks less, easy to work with and I keep fully stocked on the neutrals. Creams, black, white and grey.
