Day 1 & 2: Stavanger & Pulpit Rock
Getting a feel of Norway by starting in one of its cities and hiking the famous Pulpit Rock to see fjords.
Flew into Stavanger as the first place on my road trip around Norway. Small city by the water that can easily be explored by foot.

Days 3 & 4: Hardangerfjord
Stopping through Haugesund and exploring the Hardangerfjord
Small town we stopped in after leaving Stavanger to pick up some snacks. Haraldsgata street is where all the shops & cafés are
Stopped by this historical landmark in Haugesund before heading further to Hardangerfjord. Make sure you climb up the steps as there's a nice view of the town and waterfront from behind the obelisk.
Loved stopping by this waterfall! It's along the way to Hardangerfjord from Haugesund and is magnificent when you see it in person.
Another pretty cool waterfall along the way. Not as big as Langfossen but still cool nonetheless.
A lovely city that we drove through to take a ferry to our Airbnb in Hardangerfjord. Visit the Opo River Viewpoint before you enter the city for an amazing view.
First stop driving along Hardangerfjord! This is a pretty cool waterfall because you can go behind it and stay completely dry.
A rest stop on the drive along Hardangerfjord, but it's not obvious at first because the restroom is in such a cool architectural building.
You'll be crossing the Hardanger Bridge as you make your way to the last 2 stops, which are also my favorites from today.
Stop by this city for a quick bite before continuing to the last 2 (& best) stops. Pastries at Vik Café were amazing.
Saw a few waterfalls yesterday that I thought was impressive, but this one blew me away. Loved the views from the top here, one of my favorites from today.
This place was stunning! My favorite view in Norway so far. You have to go up a narrow, winding road and dark tunnel to get here, but it's 100% worth it. Make sure you time the trip though, as cars can only go up at the hour and come down at the half...
A gorgeous area to drive through. Was lucky to have found an Airbnb overlooking Hardangerfjord.
Days 5 & 6: Bergen

Made our way over to Bergen on Day 5! A lively city with tons of restaurants, shops and street food.
Incredible views of Bergen!
Awesome place to eat fresh seafood. Bit expensive, tons of options. Even had king crab here.

Days 7 & 8: Flåm, Aurlandsfjord, Loen
Riding the “world's most scenic train” and exploring the fjord landscape
A lovely place known for the “most beautiful train ride in the world”
Grabbed roundtrip train tickets where you'll go from Flåm to Myrdal and back to Flåm. The views were truly incredible during the 1 hour journey each way
Amazing viewpoint of the Aurlandsfjord
One of my favorite views in Norway so far. This cable car is one of the steepest in the world, and I was amazed by the views from the top. I also watched people hang glide off the cliffs here!
Day 9: Geirangerfjord
Visiting Geirangerfjord and making stops along the way for spectacular viewpoints.
Another incredible Norwegian fjord. Really cool seeing both glaciers and fjords here.
Came here in July and it was super cool seeing glaciers. A viewpoint to stop at while making your way around the Geirangerfjord.
Incredible views! This is Europe's highest fjord view by road. Here I saw a mix of snow-covered mountains and Geirangerfjord. When you're on the walkway, take a look down!
An area right inside the Dalsnibba viewpoint. It's an open skywalk so you can get a closer look at the Geirangerfjord.
Nice area to stop by for a look at the fjord closer to ground level with a serene stream nearby.
Another scenic view point to stop at while making your way down to Geiranger
Super quick trail from Geiranger. The only hard part is all the stairs you have to take to get to the very top of the Fossevandringa waterfall, but the views up there are worth it!
One last viewpoint in Geirangerfjord. Look to your right where you'll see the Seven Sister Waterfalls in the distance.
Day 10: Trollstigen & Andalsnes
Driving the famous Trollstigen known fo its hairpin turns and ending in the town of Andalsnes.
Stopped through here while driving from Geirangerfjord to Trollstigen. Nice rest area with a great cafe for cinnamon buns and a Trollstigen-like walkway overseeing a waterfall.
A challenging road with many hairpin turns, but definitely give it a drive as it's also very scenic.
Ending Day 10 in this alpine village before driving the Atlantic Road for Day 11
Europe's tallest rock, stopped here on the way to Åndalsnes but was hard seeing the tops due to cloudy weather
Can hike up or take a cable car up and walk down to see the view
Norway's longest cable car. Another cool experience to get sky-high views. Didn't get a chance to go to this one given the rain and it being too cloudy on top.
If you have an extra day in Åndalsnes and are a big hiker, this is a popular trail ~8 hours hike.
Day 11: Trondheim
Exploring the city of Trondheim for a day before flying out the next day to Lofoten
Nice scenic drive on the way to Trondheim, enjoyed the drives from the previous days more though
Known as the technology capital of Norway. Stopping here to explore the city and flying out of Trondheim to get to the Lofoten islands
Nice area to walk by and see the colorful houses along the river.
Super cute & peaceful street to walk down with restaurants and old houses.
Parked in this area and discovered this was a mall with a nice plaza to walk around outside.
Small historical spot to walk around with free admissions. Thought this place had the best view overlooking Trondheim!
Days 12 - 14: Lofoten Islands
Exploring the wonders of Lofoten islands through a scenic drive, hikes & viewpoints.
An Arctic archipelago perfect for the outdoor lover. Tons of hiking trails here. The drive is breathtaking, especially going through the bottom half of Lofoten.
Flew into Svolvær from Trondheim. Only made a quick stop here, but this city is known for its Trollfjord cruise, taking a fishing trip, and hiking trails.
Stayed the first night in Henningsvaer. Small town that's easily walkable & tons of restaurants/cafes and shops around. Find the shop Lofotlys Henningsvaer - you can find lights made from sea urchins!
One of the most unique souvenirs we brought back from Norway. The owners handpick these sea urchins on their dives and turn them into decorative lights!
Quick viewpoint to stop at after driving out of Henningsvaer. Bathrooms availablehere.
Beautiful beach! There's also a trailhead that's very easy and walkable around the beach where you can get a nice view from above.
You can walk to this beach by taking the walking trail by Hauklandstranda. Super easy and flat walk.
Awesome trail to hike right by Hauklandstranda beach. Takes about 1-1.5 hours to get up. Not too hard, but can be difficult getting back down as the trail can be slippery. View from above is amazing despite a short hike.
A short but difficult in that it is a very steep trail. Takes about an hour to get to the top, trail is not very well marked.
A unique shop selling seaweed seasoning while driving through Lofoten. Picked up some to bring back.
Another great beach to stop at while driving through Lofoten
Very pretty fishing village to walk through. You'll find tons of rorbu (fishermen's cabin) here. Try to stay in one while you're in Lofoten!
Beautiful town! There are a few scenic view points, one is the Reine View from the bridge where you can see the whole town against the water.
One of the most famous hikes in Lofoten. Over 1000 steps which makes it challenging, but rewarded with great views at the top.
A fishing village in Lofoten that's only 1 letter! Small town that has a bakery selling cinnamon buns. There's also a nice viewpoint by the water overlooking the town that should definitely be visited.
Days 15 & 16: Oslo
Last but not least, ending this Norway roadtrip in its capital city of Oslo
Nice park to walk around, a lot of cool sculptures and roses.
Right by Frognerparken with unique human sculptures
Loved coming to the Opera house during sunset. You're able to head to the roof and get an amazing view of Oslo
Reserved tickets in advance for a guided tour that lasts about 45 min. Guide was great in telling the history behind the palace and showing us around. Note: no pictures allowed during the tour!
Super pretty street to walk down filled with shops and outdoor restaurants
Great place to walk alongside the water. Tons of restaurants, super lively area.
Public bath area in Oslo. Come here during the summer to take a dip.
Fortress with free admissions. Museums inside require tickets. Nice area to walk around, take a break, and get a view of Aker Brygge
Places to Eat
All the places I loved eating at around Norway. Tons of seafood and Norwegian pastries.
Grabbed pastries here after driving along the Hardangerfjord and they were some of the best I've ever had. Try their Skolebolle and Kanelsnurrer!
Tried whale meat for the first time here in Bergen, tasted a bit like beef. Also delicious fish soup and Atlantic catfish.
Delicious hot dog in Bergen! Got a reindeer hot dog with all the toppings recommended.
Delicious homemade pastries in Bergen, grabbed a few for breakfast. Go early as seating is limited
Great place for a quick bite. Super affordable for Norway prices but food was still tasty. Grabbed one of the sampler plates to try a bit of everything.
Backstube is all around Norway, stopped by here to grab pastries for the next day and it was pretty good.
Loved grabbing pastries here in the morning before riding the Flåmsbana railway right next door.
Incredible views at this cafe by the Aurlandsfjord. Takes about 30 min. to hike up, but worth it! Everything is made fresh at the farm, where you can have fresh coffee, homemade pancakes, and brown cheese made with milk from goats they raise themselv...
Grabbed fish cakes in naanta bread and bacalao buns here as a quick lunch while in Geiranger - delicious! Best fish cakes I've had in Norway so far.
Grabbed dinner here in Geiranger and the food was great. Ask what their special of the day is (I got the trout and it was perfect) and try the Panna Cotta for dessert
Stopped here on the way to Trollstigen and got delicious cinnamon buns, cake & these mini croissants.
Grabbed a salad and burger here in Åndalsnes and it was delicious. Super fresh and amazing bread.
Got to try reindeer stew here in Trondheim which tasted a lot like pâté. Fish soup was a bit salty. Very friendly service.
Absolutely delicious! Came here for dinner in Henningsvaer and loved everything we got. The fish soup came with bread and butter that had a touch of smoked whale. Halibut was also great.
Beautiful area where the café is located in Bøstad. Try their goat cheese!
Grabbed lunch here while driving through Lofoten island. Fish burger was a bit salty, but shrimp & salmon were super fresh.
Grabbed sushi dinner here while in Svolvaer and loved it. There was a Lofoten maki and salmon tartare that was great.
Grabbed a classic Norwegian waffle with jam, sour cream & brown cheese in Oslo, and out of all the waffles I tried in Norway, this place had the best ones.
Food hall with different types of cuisines in Oslo. Grabbed poké here and the salmon was so fresh.
Grabbed Chinese food in Oslo and highly recommend this place. Amazing customer service, and the fish and crispy eggplant was so tasty.
Gelato in Oslo that reminded me of the ones I had in Italy.
Where to Stay
Places I enjoyed staying at while road-tripping across Norway. Mix of hotels and cabins.
Breakfast is the best part about this hotel. The spread is huge, where you'll find everything like fresh bread, yogurt, fruit, smoothies, smoked salmon, a cheese & meat station, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, vegetables, fish, cakes and pies, a granol...
Perfect location in Bergen. Loved the city view outside the window.
Cabins are the bare minimum e.g. just bunk beds in a room where the bathroom is shared with other guests, but the views right outside were incredible.
Stayed in one of the apartments with a balcony and this was one of my favorite stays in Norway. Very clean and modern apartment, the best feature being a balcony that overlooked the fjord.
Wonderful area with fjord views. Stayed in one of the apartments after visiting Geirangerfjord and the interior was nicely decorated with a cozy vibe.
Stayed here the first night in Lofoten Islands while visiting Henningsvaer. Clean & modern apartments in a great location.
Stayed in this Rorbu (fishermen's cabin) while in Lofoten islands. Quiet area with nice water views of Rorbu.
Stayed at this hotel in Oslo. Basic rooms with a good selection of healthy breakfast options and right in the city center by the opera house.
