The animorphs series was one of our 90s kid staples. Some of them have been redone as awesome graphic novels. My kid loves these!

Age 7-12 A classic!
Heidi book by Johanna Spyri
Age 8-10 and up. Another classic - a bit of a challenging read for younger readers as there are depictions of animal cruelty and sad themes. Some pages recommend age 10+. A good read to learn about compassion and empathy toward animals and horses.
Black Beauty book by Anna Sewell
If you as a parent like apocalyptic and zombie movies, this series is great to check out with the kids! We did the graphic novels.
