Wallets - Hot vs Cold

Unlike traditional finance where a "forgot password" button saves your butt, in crypto, you are entirely responsible for your funds. They don't call it self-custody without reason. Lose your private key? Tough luck. Forget your seed phrase? Enjoy you...

There are two main flavours of wallets:
- Hot wallets — fast, convenient, and about as secure as using “password123” for your email.
- Cold wallets — like 2-FA for crypto, slow, clunky, and built for people who believe in "safety first" (or who've been rugged before).

A real degen knows: You need both. One for your day-to-day shenanigans. One for the real bags you swear you’ll HODL for a decade (but will probably panic sell in three months).

Hot wallets are on-chain, this makes them handy for decentralised finance, they provide quick access to funds that you are regularly moving around. Whereas cold wallets are off-chain, they can't be transferred without your 2FA key.

Please note you should never buy cold wallets from 3rd party sellers like eBay or facebook marketplace, you want to make sure you buy directly from the supplier to make sure the product hasn't been tampered with!

Exchanges - CEX vs DEX

Welcome to the meat grinder of crypto: The Exchanges.
This is where you swap your hard-earned fiat into glorious JPEGs, meme coins, and "blue chips" (that hopefully don’t go to zero). Whether you're buying your first Bitcoin or trading some obscure dog-themed token, you’ll need to dance with the central...
There are two main flavors of exchanges:
- CEXs (Centralized Exchanges) — Think crypto banks. You send them money, they send you coins. Easy... until they rug you. ("Not your keys, not your coins," remember?)
- DEXs (Decentralized Exchanges) — Wild West trading. No middlemen, no customer service, no mercy. You sign transactions directly from your wallet and pray for the best. Spoiler alert: You're gonna end up using both. 📈📉
In this section, we'll run through the best CEXs and DEXs every aspiring degen needs to know about — with the usual warnings, memes, and battle scars included. (And yes, we’ll tell you which ones you should probably avoid like the plague too.) Ready?...

The Death Star of crypto trading. You've probably heard of BNB token and the Binance Smart chain, well Binance is responsible for those - surprisingly enough, BNB has outperformed its altcoin peers impressively these last 5 years.
Biggest liquidity, millions of coins, and enough altcoins to lose your house twice over. Sometimes shady, always useful.
Pros:
✅ Insane liquidity (you can buy/sell anything)
✅ Cheap fees
✅ Great launchpads and farming
Cons:
❌ Regulator magnet
❌ You don’t actually own your coins here, until you withdraw crypto onchain or fiat to your bank!

The "your boomer uncle would approve" exchange.
Kraken’s the OG safe harbor. Clean reputation, solid security, and no crazy meme token listings (boo). It’s boring, but in a good way — the exchange equivalent of buying a Volvo.
Pros:
✅ Rock-solid security and audits
✅ Strong regulatory compliance (especially US/EU)
✅ Supports staking for major coins (ETH, DOT, ADA)
Cons:
❌ Not many degen coins
❌ Can feel slow and clunky sometimes

Fun fact: Kraken doesn’t have its own major token (yet), because they’re too busy being responsible adults. 🚗

The training wheels for crypto normies.
Coinbase is the first stop for 90% of people buying their first Bitcoin. Easy to use, fully regulated, and expensive as hell on fees. Perfect if you want your crypto journey to start with a KYC facial scan and a tax form.
Pros:
✅ Extremely easy for beginners
✅ Top-tier security and insurance
✅ BASE — their own Layer 2 blockchain now (gas fees paid in ETH) Cons:
❌ High fees (Coinbase Pro is cheaper, but RIP Coinbase Pro)
❌ Very strict — they’ll freeze anything suspicious
❌ Limited altcoins compared to real degen platforms

Bonus alpha: Coinbase launched BASE, their own L2 network. Cheaper Ethereum transactions, weird airdrops, and early farming opportunities? Yes please.

Crypto.com blew up during the 2021 bull run with insane marketing. Easy to use app, flashy credit cards, and their own token (CRO) holding the ecosystem together with duct tape.
Pros:
✅ Good for mobile-first users
✅ Cashback credit card (paid in CRO)
✅ Tons of promo offers and staking bonuses
Cons:
❌ CRO token got absolutely nuked in the bear market
❌ Not the cheapest fees if you're not staking CRO
❌ Some shady liquidity rumors (proceed with caution)

Bonus alpha: CRO powers the whole Crypto.com empire. Staking it gives you higher rewards, cheaper trading, and access to special promo perks.

✅ Comprehensive analytics for exploring new pairs and liquidity depth.
Cons:
❌ High risk of encountering low-quality or scam tokens — DYOR is essential.

✅ Easy to use with lettered tiles for manual assembly of your seed phrase
✅ Solid steel construction — better than paper or plastic backups, and can handle most physical threats
✅ Works with 24-word seed phrases (no 20-word option)
✅ Ideal for budget-conscious traders who want something reliable but not ultra-premium
Cons:
❌ Not fireproof — a fireproof safe is recommended for ultimate protection
❌ Manual setup of tiles can be a bit tedious, and there’s a chance for human error (so maybe don’t do it after a few drinks, yeah?) ❌ Less indestructible than other options like the Trezor Keep Metal or CryptoTag Zeus Bonus alpha:

For a low-cost solution, the Billfodl delivers serious protection for your seed phrase. It’s easy to store and reliable, but it won’t give you the apocalyptic-level security that the Zeus or Trezor Keep Metal can offer. If you're a degen who wants va...

Because writing your seed on a napkin isn’t security — it’s asking to get rekt. The Trezor Keep Metal is a serious upgrade for serious players. It’s a full metal, waterproof, fireproof, hater-proof vault for your 24-word recovery phrase. Made from ae...
Pros:
✅ Fits full 24-word seed phrases — no cheating with half-seeds.
✅ 24 words is the most common format for BIP39 wallets (which including Trezor, Ledger, and most other hardware wallets). More secure: With 24 words, the entropy (or randomness) is higher, meaning it's harder for anyone to brute-force your recovery p...
✅ Indestructible stainless steel build (seriously, good luck trying to break it). More than the Billfodl.
✅ Easy-to-punch engraving — no shaky hands needed
Cons:
❌ Not as fire retardant as Titanium.
❌ You still have to hide it somewhere clever (hint: not under your mattress)
❌ If you lose it and your Trezor? Game over. No customer support hotline for stupidity.

Bonus alpha: Combine this with a metal backup for your passphrase or Shamir shares, and you’re basically operating at a paranoid billionaire level — which is exactly where you want to be in crypto. "Protect your seed like your life depends on it — be...

✅ Titanium build — lighter than Trezor Keep Metal but still able to withstand 1,500°C (like a freakin' volcano)
✅ Comes with laser-engraved templates to make sure you don’t mess up your seed phrase (we all know how that ends)
✅ Indestructible — fire, water, crush tests, you name it, Zeus laughs in its face
✅ Supports 24-word seed phrases — for that extra level of crypto security
Cons:
❌ Premium price tag — it’s a beast, but you pay for that luxury
❌ It’s bulkier than the Trezor Keep Metal, so if you’re looking for something stealthier, it’s not for you

Bonus alpha: While Trezor Keep Metal is practically indestructible for the average person, CryptoTag Zeus goes next level with its laser-etched titanium build. This makes it the ultimate degen power move if you’re not just storing a wallet, but stori...
