September hits and I physically cannot look at a plain brown mat anymore. These actually make me want to come home to my own front door, which is saying something for a $15 rectangle on the ground.

November rolls around and the leaf mat gets retired. I used to just leave it until spring, but honestly a winter mat makes December feel different when you walk through the door after a long day.

By March I'm so tired of looking at dark colors that swapping in a bright mat genuinely improves my mood. Sounds dramatic, but try it once and you'll start doing it every year.

June through August my doormat takes the most abuse. Bare feet, sand, sunscreen drips, you name it. These are the ones that survived a full summer without looking like they belonged in a dumpster.

Rotating mats only works if the off-season ones don't turn into moldy disasters in your garage. Learned that lesson the hard way my first year. These keep everything clean and ready to swap.
