Chances are, the parent-to-be will already have this classic or might be gifted this one from someone else too. Attach the gift receipt just in case he/she receives duplicates. Or, he/she can keep a copy at grandparents' house.
Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Buenas Noches, Luna was my daughter's favorite book. She preferred it over the English language version. It's fun for the parent to be to read and even more exciting for the baby to enjoy.
Buenas noches, Luna (Goodnight Moon)
This isn't your grandma's Red Fish Blue Fish…….This is EXTRA! Baby can grab and slide the fish while you read to him/her. My daughters loved this book for years. It's not the full story, so don't get disappointed when it doesn't end the way you remember. The fun is moving the 3D fish back and forth as you read.
One Fish, Two Fish, Dr. Seuss Manipulative
This one is a conversation starter for sure!! My daughters absolutely loved this book. I didn't start reading it to them until they were older, but purchase it for a baby shower and you'll receive lots of laughs.

A to Z: Boynton, Sandra ...
I don't want to put too many Sandra Boynton Books on this list, but I just can't help myself. We love elephants and hippos at our house so these illustrations are mesmerizing for baby. It obviously introduces the concept of Opposites and ends up being fun for babies and toddlers to go back and forth in the opposite directions making connections in their minds.
Opposites: Boynton, Sandra ...
This book is a classic and let's just admit it: It looks beautiful wrapped in muted tissue paper or infant themed wrapping paper and baby shower bows. Ask anyone if they had this book on baby's bookshelf and the answer will be a resounding, “YES!”

My babies loved the rhythm of this book and sometimes it lulled them to sleep. If it isn't Naptime or bedtime, the pictures will keep the little one captivated and interested.
