Flat masks made my eyelashes feel crushed and I'd wake up with mascara smeared everywhere. These have molded cups so nothing presses on your eyes. Sounds small, but the first time I blinked freely under a mask I was sold.

My forehead was breaking out from synthetic masks and I couldn't figure out why. Switched to silk and the irritation cleared up in days. These also slide less on your pillowcase so they actually stay on all night.

Some nights my brain just will not shut off. Adding gentle pressure around my eyes works like a reset button. Not heavy enough to feel claustrophobic, just enough to signal my nervous system to calm down.

I used to fall asleep with earbuds that would stab my ear canal when I rolled over. These combine a mask and flat speakers so I can listen to rain sounds without anything jammed in my ears.

Waking up at 2am with a sweaty face and a damp mask stuck to my skin was the final straw. These use cooling gel, breathable fabric, or both. If your face runs hot, regular foam masks will make you miserable.

Hotel blackout curtains are a lie. Every business trip I'd end up stuffing a towel against the window at 3am. Now I just pack a proper mask and sleep like I'm in a cave no matter where I am.

The mask itself is only part of the equation. These small additions fixed problems I didn't even know I had, from strap discomfort to hygiene issues. Took me embarrassingly long to figure out some of these.
