My first paddle was so heavy I could feel it in my shoulder for two days. Switched to something lighter with a bigger sweet spot and suddenly I was returning shots I had zero business returning.

Wore trail runners to my first lesson and slid across the court like a baby deer on tile. Court shoes with lateral support changed everything about how I moved.

Showed up once with a cracked ball from someone's garage and spent half the time chasing weird bounces. Good balls make drills actually productive instead of chaotic.

I used to show up with my paddle in one hand, water bottle under my arm, and balls falling out of my pockets. A proper bag made me look like I at least sort of knew what I was doing.

Little things I didn't think about until I was squinting in the sun, dripping sweat on my grip, and realizing I had no way to mark where I was aiming during drills.

My coach gave me homework and I had nowhere to practice between lessons. These let me work on form in my driveway without needing a partner or a full court.

Nobody warned me how sore I'd be after my first lesson. My calves, my shoulder, my forearm. Everything hurt. These kept me functional enough to show up for session two.
