Every overhead light in our house might as well have been a spotlight at 2am. These gave me just enough glow to see what I was doing without my daughter's eyes popping open like a startled owl.

Propping my baby up with random couch pillows had my lower back screaming by week two. These actually held her at the right angle so I wasn't hunched over like a gargoyle during feeds.

Our house is from 1987 and every floorboard announces itself. A sound machine was the only thing standing between a sleeping baby and the chaos of me trying to sneak back to bed.

I watched four YouTube tutorials on swaddling and my daughter Houdini'd out of a regular blanket every single time. These stayed put and kept her from startling herself awake right after I laid her down.

Nothing wakes a drowsy baby faster than a cold wipe and five minutes of fumbling with snaps. Getting the diaper station dialed in cut our change time to under ninety seconds.

Heating a bottle on the stove at 2am while trying not to fall asleep standing up was my rock bottom. These made the whole process almost autopilot.

That wooden rocker my mom gave us looked cute but destroyed my tailbone after twenty minutes. A real glider made those long midnight feeds something I could actually survive.

Streetlights, car headlights, the neighbor's porch — all of it snuck through our nursery curtains and kept my daughter in light sleep mode. Blacking out the room was the single biggest improvement we made.

Our first monitor had a screen so bright it lit up our entire bedroom like a TV. Finding one with a dim display mode meant I could check on her without waking myself up completely.

Beyond the big purchases, a few small things made the difference between dreading the 2am alarm and just rolling with it. These are the random finds I'd throw in a gift basket for any new parent.
