Wind kept flipping my old blanket onto my snacks. Ants crawled right through the thin ones. These actually stay flat, keep bugs off, and don't weigh down my already-stuffed diaper bag.

Not every playground has that perfect shady oak. Some are just baking concrete and a single slide. I burned my shoulders twice before I started bringing my own shade.

My knees stopped cooperating with sitting cross-legged on grass around age thirty-five. Sometimes a blanket isn't enough and you need actual back support while watching kids go down the slide forty-seven times.

Leaving open snack bags on a blanket is an invitation for ants, wasps, and that one bold squirrel. Learned that lesson at our neighborhood park the hard way last June.

Kids run in and out of shade constantly but I'm parked in one spot absorbing UV for two hours straight. Got a sunburn through my shirt once and decided never again.

There's only so many times I can scroll my phone before my brain melts. These keep me sane during the hour between ‘five more minutes’ and actually leaving the park.
