This is my husband's list. I asked him what, exactly, do old school giant monsters have to do with Orthodoxy? I will spare you his torturous explanation. You're welcome.
This is the one that started it all. When I first saw this glorious movie at age 6, I was mesmerized. It started a life-long love of old school giant monster movies. There's nothing like watching King Kong carrying Fay Wray in a fake jungle that looks way cooler than a real jungle.
King Kong (1933 film)
A dirty white ape half the height of his daddy? Sign me up!
Son of Kong (1933)
This one brings back memories, with or without Raymond Burr or Steve Martin or whatever you want to call him.
Godzilla 1954
Godzilla gets to fight his first monster. Every child wants to see giant monster vs. giant monster fights.
Godzilla Raids Again (1955)
Imagine a giant mutant flying dinosaur that can fly so fast and flap its wings so hard that it destroys whole buildings! I was riveted!
Rodan (1956)
Is there anything cuter than the two little fairy girls and their weird songs?
Mothra (1961)
It's the champs! Pure nostalgic overdrive as this is the first giant monster movie I ever saw. It's King Kong. It's Godzilla. They fight. How can it get better?
King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)
The little fairies are back with the giant moth, and a slightly angry Godzilla is on the way!
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)
That's King Ghidorah. Breathing lightning out of all three of his heads. Needless to say, the coolest monster that Godzilla ever fought. For the first time, Godzilla is the good guy.
Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster (1964)
In case you didn't know, monsters just don't live on earth. Some come from outer space. And they all seem to want to fight Godzilla. Coincidence?
Invasion of the Astro-Monster (1965)
I was robbed! When I was a child, my dad and I stayed up until midnight to watch this. I thought it ended abruptly. Only decades later did I discover that my dad turned it off half-way through so he could get some sleep. Not everyone loves Godzilla, ...
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966)
King Kong has a son, and so does Godzilla. It's not complicated.
Son of Godzilla (1967)
I think this was the one I missed watching on the late show. All the other children at school were talking about how cool it was the next day. Sigh.
Destroy All Monsters (1968)
Or was it this one? This might have been the one with all the monsters, everyone vs everyone. And I missed it!
All Monsters Attack (1969)
Very, very weird. You didn't know Godzilla can fly, did you?
Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971)
As a child, I thought that Gigan was the coolest looking monster out of the bunch. As an adult, I still do but add King Ghidora.
Godzilla vs Gigan (1972)
When I first saw this as a child, I was blown away: Not only giant monsters, but a giant robot, too! Jet Jaguar!
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973)
So we have giant monsters and giant robots. How about a giant robot version of a giant monster? That's Mechagodzilla!
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
Can't get enough of Mechagodzilla? No one can. Hence this movie.
