What I'd purchase if I was just starting out hiking and was wanting to get gear that is quality, technical, made for hiking/active wear, and that fit into a tighter budget. Some of the items on this list may not seem like the most "budget friendly" options and technically they may not be but due to quality, durability, and manufacturer warranties/guarantees they are, in my opinion, worth the extra cost. As someone who doesn't like spending money, I personally am a fan of spending a little more upfront to potentially save a lot in the future.
It's ok if you need to piece together your set up, sticking with what you already have and starting with the basics (Footwear, Pack, and the 10 Essentials) and working towards a more "complete" gear/clothing list. Happy hiking! :)
