Hair dryers I've used
I've only owned two hair dryers with diffusers, so here's my honest experience with both to help you decide which might work best for your curls.
This is my current favorite! It dries my curls faster than my old dryer and leaves them with less frizz. My only complaint is that I wish the diffuser bowl was a little larger.
Wavytalk 1875W Ionic Hair Dryer with Diffuser
This was the first diffuser I bought when I started embracing my natural curls. It's a solid beginner option and helped me learn how to diffuse my hair.
INFINITI PRO CONAIR Hair Dryer with Diffuser
Wash Day
Healthy curls start with a good wash routine. These are the shampoo, conditioner, and clarifying products I use to keep buildup away while keeping my curls moisturized.
Leaves my curls soft without weighing them down. I can easily detangle my hair with this conditioner.
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Bond Building Conditioner for Curly Hair, 8 fl oz - Walmart.com
Cleans my hair well without making it feel stripped. I use this every wash day.
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Bond Building Shampoo for Curly Hair, 8 fl oz
I use this every 4–6 weeks whenever my curls feel weighed down from styling products or hard water buildup.
L'Oreal Paris Ever Pure Clarifying Shampoo with Vitamin C, Glycine, for All Hair Types, 6.8 fl oz
Styling Products
These are the products I use every wash day to create definition, reduce frizz, and get long-lasting curls. I use them in this order: leave-in, gel, mousse, then oil once dry.
I never skip leave-in conditioner. It helps moisturize my curls, makes detangling easier, and adds heat protection before diffusing.
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Leave-In Conditioner, 6 fl oz
I've tried both the Curl Talk Soft Hold Gel and the Hard Hold Gel, and the Hard Hold works much better for my hair. It gives me a strong cast that I can easily scrunch out once my hair is completely dry, leaving my curls defined with less frizz and b...
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Flash Freeze Gel, Extra Strong Hold, For All Curl Types, 6 fl oz
I add to my roots and I scrunch this into soaking wet hair after gel for extra volume and longer-lasting curls.
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Curl Activating Hair Mousse for Lightweight Hold, 7 oz
I use a few drops after my hair is completely dry to break the gel cast, reduce frizz, and add shine.
Cliganic Jojoba Oil 16oz Non-GMO Pure
Perfect for second- and third-day curls. It refreshes my curls without making them sticky or heavy.
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Refreshing Curl Foam, 8 fl oz
Styling Tools
These tools make styling easier and help create better curl definition and volume. I use every one of these regularly.
I only brush my curls while they're wet and coated with conditioner. This brush glides through tangles without pulling.
Tangle Teezer Ultimate Detangler Curly Hair Brush
I use this brush around the crown of my hair to create extra volume while still helping my curls clump together. It's one of my favorite tools for adding lift at the roots.
Curl Defining Brush for Curly Hair Styling
I use this brush to create defined curl clumps while adding volume throughout my hair. It doesn't lift the roots as much as my other styling brush, but it's perfect for adding shape and fullness.
Curl Defining Brush for Curly Hair - Men & Women
I constantly use this while styling because my curls work best soaking wet. The continuous mist makes it easy to keep my hair damp.
BeautifyBeauties Continuous Hair Spray Bottle
Great for smoothing sections and encouraging curl clumps. I don't use it every wash day, but it's a useful styling tool.
Denman D3 Curl Definer & Styler Brush
Protecting My Curls Overnight
I wear this every night. It helps reduce frizz, keeps my curls defined longer, and protects my hair while I sleep.
BONNET QUEEN Silk Satin Adjustable Sleep Cap
I wrap my hair in this before putting on my bonnet to help keep everything in place overnight.
RIIQIICHY Silk-Like Printed Square Scarf 35"
Even if my bonnet slips off, my satin pillowcase helps reduce friction, frizz, and hair breakage.
BEDELITE Satin Pillowcase 2 Pack Navy 20x30
I use these to put my hair into a loose "pineapple" before bed. They're gentle on my curls, help prevent dents and breakage, and make it easier to wake up with curls that need less refreshing.
