Our first rail slid off the mattress at 2 AM and scared everyone in the house. These ones clamp on tight and don't budge, even when my daughter does her signature sleep-roll combo.

We visit my parents every other weekend and their bed setup is totally different. Packing a full rail felt ridiculous until I found ones that fold flat and fit in a suitcase.

Not every kid needs a full rail. My niece just needed a little bump to keep her from drifting. These wedge-style bumpers sit under the sheet and do the job quietly.

Regular sheets kept popping off every time my daughter moved. The rail would catch the fabric and pull the whole corner loose. These sheets actually stay tight around everything.

Accidents happen more often during the big-kid bed transition. My daughter was potty trained but the move to a new bed threw her off for a couple weeks. These saved the mattress.

Part of our falling-out-of-bed problem was my daughter trying to climb out in the dark to find us. A good night light kept her calm enough to stay put and call for us instead.

My daughter would scrunch up against the rail and wake up cranky with a stiff neck. Getting the right pillow kept her centered on the mattress and she actually stopped rolling as much.

Half the time my daughter rolled off the bed she was chasing her blanket. It would slide to the floor and she'd follow it right over the edge. These ones actually grip the sheet and stay put.

Reading about big-kid beds made my daughter less anxious about the whole switch. She went from crying at bedtime to being excited about her ‘new sleep spot’ after a week of these stories.

Once my daughter could climb out of bed freely, the whole room became a hazard. Outlet covers and furniture anchors aren't exciting purchases but they let me sleep without worrying she's exploring unsupervised.
