I refused to believe a tiny steamer could handle creases from a packed suitcase. Then I tried one in a hotel bathroom in Chicago ten minutes before a rehearsal dinner, and my silk blouse came out perfect.

Sometimes you don't even have five minutes. A flight lands late, the event starts in 20 minutes, and you need something that works while the outfit is still on your body. These saved me more than once.

Some fabrics just respond better to direct heat and pressure. I love my steamers, but when I'm packing a structured blazer or pleated pants, a small iron still wins.

Half the battle is packing smarter so you need less steaming when you arrive. After ruining a silk dress by folding it under my sneakers, I finally invested in proper garment storage for travel.

Not every hotel has an iron. Some have steamers that smell like the last guest's cologne. These small accessories mean you never have to rely on whatever the hotel provides.
