July weddings sound great until 8 PM hits and there's a breeze off the water. These are thin enough to stuff in a clutch but warm enough to actually matter when the temperature dips.

October through February is when most people give up on outdoor events entirely. I refused, but only because I finally found wraps heavy enough to handle 45-degree cocktail hours.

Finding a wrap that doesn't cheapen an expensive dress was harder than finding the dress itself. These three actually look like they belong with black-tie outfits.

I used to buy a new wrap for every outfit until I realized three good neutrals cover about 90% of my wardrobe. These are the ones I rotate constantly.

Sometimes neutral is boring and you want the wrap to BE the outfit. I started experimenting with color last year and honestly wish I'd done it sooner.

My biggest frustration with wraps was constantly readjusting them while holding a drink and a plate. These actually stay on your shoulders without safety pins or prayer.

Not every event deserves a splurge. Sometimes you just need something decent for a coworker's outdoor happy hour that you might lose by the end of the night.

Some outdoor venues get genuinely cold, not just breezy. These are for the nights when a thin pashmina is basically a napkin on your shoulders.
