A curated list of theme parks I’ve experienced both solo and as a parent. From thrilling roller coasters and immersive lands to family-friendly attractions and hidden gems, this list highlights the differences in each visit—whether I was chasing adre...
Always a bonus when you can stay inside the teme park and get early access to the rides
Fårup Sommerland
Visited here within months of it first opening (Dec 1981).This place has certainly changed over the years but I think my favourite area is Tiger Island and watching the shows.
Dreamworld
A Gold Coast tourist icon. In the early days it was famous for it's water ski shows. Could sit and watch the polar bears for hours.
Sea World Gold Coast
My list wouldn't be complete without including my ‘local’ theme park. Colorado is the best on a hot day, and it turns into a magical winter wonderland at Christmas.
Liseberg
This was a spur of the moment decision to visit here Summer 2024. Wear comfortable shoes because this place is huge! Pro tip is to book one of the hotels on site for early access to some rides.
Alton Towers
A relatively ‘small’ place compared to others we have visited. Pro tip : the icea cream pearls from Kiosk Jädehelmi
Linnanmäki
A theme park right in the city with a special focus on gardens and greenery. Pro tip is ride the 'Star Flyer' for a good view over the city (if you are game to open your eyes)
Tivoli Gardens
An absolute MUST if you have a Peppa Pig fan in your family.
Paultons Park
Not sure if this one counts as a theme park, but the kids loved it when they were small.
Brighton Pier
A Sydney icon, famous for the ‘smiley’ face at the entrance. Check it out at night if you can.
Luna Park Sydney
Little bit surreal to walk outside after spending the day inside this massive dome and there's frost on the ground (we often visit here in February).
Tropical Islands
Famous for the lorikeet feeding in the afternoon, this is a must if you are visiting the Gold Coast and want to get up close to Australia's native wildlife.
Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary
I visited here as a young teenager and had a blast. Now my kids are begging me to take them there.
[Official]Tokyo Disneyland
The ‘poor man’s relation' to Göteborg's Liseberg (but only a Swede from the West Coast would probably say that) :-D
Gröna Lund
This place was amazing and seriously hard to believe that the displays are built out of lego! Be sure to go on the Lego Safari and check out all the animals made entirely of lego and of course there's the obligatory visit to the Lego shop to hand pic...
LEGOLAND® Billund
OK, so this wasn't really a theme park, but there is a great indoor pool and waterslide area within the hotel. It kept the kids occupied for ages and because it was all within the actual hotel, we could come and go as we pleased. Well worth a visit i...
Resort Linstow
If you have a kid that's a fan of Pippi Longstocking, you don't want to miss a visit here. It's not really a theme park, but has lots of shows with the famous characters from the books to entertain the kids. Take a raincoat though because all the sho...
