Located approximately 20 miles west of Rochester, Brockport is situated along the Erie Canal in the western end of Monroe County, bordering Orleans County. Incorporated in 1829, Brockport was founded by Heil Brockway and James Seymour. It served as a port on the Erie Canal and was briefly the canal's terminus until 1829. Home to the College at Brockport, State University of New York, the village has a strong educational presence. Brockport is known as "The Victorian Village on the Erie Canal," featuring a pedestrian-friendly downtown with quaint shops and restaurants. The village offers several parks and is recognized as the first Trail Town on the Erie Canal, promoting outdoor activities and tourism.
